Rain problem

Hi there!

Today I noticed that station reported total rain of the station rainfall to programs i run. Cumulus added that as a daily rain so i have 2062mm now but for example FreeWX did nothing?
Also where does Cumulus store all the hi/low data?

EDIT: Using latest beta

How on earth can i remove that report now?

Maybe FreeWX (excellent program) decided that amount of rain was silly and ignored it.

The all time records are held in binary format in alltime.rec, but you can edit it from the edit menu. You'll have to edit it out of the data files also otherwise things like the monthly record will just get reinstated on restart.

I changed comport so i didnt get any updates from the console, edited all tiem records, also oct08log.txt to clear out high values. Closed the app and restarted it, changed comport back and again, high values... :cry:

You should edit with Cumulus stopped. It overwrites things on exit.

You may also need to edit today.ini if the start of day figure has been affected. But from what you say, it shouldn't have been. Is the station still reporting the high total? You can see the reported total now as the last item in each Oct08log.txt entry.

1. Cumulus running, no ws transmit , cleard out highs/lows and closed Cumulus
2. Cleared out / removed lines with wrong reports from oct08log.txt
3. edited today.ini so it doesnt show anything weird
4. Started Cumulus, ws transmit is on and all data gets overwritten again with hiiigh values.

have no clue what else to do, its simply too weird, been running Cumulus for a long time with no problem but now...

I don't really understand what it is that the station has done, but if it is still transmitting a high total, Cumulus will continue to believe that today's rainfall is high. Can you cut and paste the Start= line from today.ini and the last few lines of Oct08log.txt?

I don't really understand where the problem is, then. It's saying that at the start of day it was reading 1.0, and it is now reading 1.0. It's possible that the earlier readings of 0.0 are causing confusion (total has gone down). Where exactly is it is showing the faulty values - and what are they?

You could try editing all the 0.0 rain totals to 1.0, or alternatively and more easy, edit that Start= figure to say Start=0, then you'll just have 1mm of rain showing. Do it with Cumulus stopped.

I did 2nd thing you said and it simply pops up 2068mm of rain which is WMR Console total rain... Then i also tried putting 2062 into a start= and it then kinda worked, it summed rainfall for today 6mm ( according to freewx 6mm is right ) and also other montly and year total is right :?

I really dont understand what happened there...

Right, so the lines you posted previously were edited by you? They should have had 2068.0 on the end like the new ones. I thought 1.0 seemed low, suggested a reset had been done.

Your Oct08log.txt file looks OK now from what you've just told me (except that really the earlier entries should have more than 1.0 in them, but I don't think that should matter).

So all is now correct, or not?

Basically, the value in Start= is the start of day total, and the values at the end of each Oct08log.txt line (or any other monthly log file) give the total at that point. Cumulus subtracts the Start= figure from that figure to give the rain so far today at point. So at any time, if something has gone wrong, you can edit the Start= figure so that calculation comes out correct.

Well before the log line was just

upgraded to latest beta, new line after pressure spotted

Today when we had some rain, i checked the Cumulus and it was all fine, 1mm at that time. Clicked the blinking Records light and there it reported 2062mm for higherday rain etc... but on main screen it was all normal... I restarted cumulus and drama begun. Today rain was 2062 :)

Lines looked like

And then I edited those numbers that they looked more normal as with 1.8.1 ;)
Did it with find and replace and as it looks I replaced too much :oops:
And after that Cumulus got the total from the station and set it to a start=
Yep, magical loop :D

Drama!

Anyway, don`t play with the data files if you`re not sure what you`re actually doing

It's not your fault. It was never my intention that people would have to hack the files like this (particularly the today.ini file, which is just supposed to be internal), so I've never made it easy to do. Hopefully this will change, eventually.

Just to let you know, FreeWX also reported 2068 daily rain after restart of the application and not before when i had issue with Cumulus. I guess it was weird report from the console?

hey!

What if i modify bucket tip to 0.25mm, then rainrate will be wrong or right on Cumulus main page and in log files :?:

Suggestions/ideas -not related to topic...
- battery status above () Error and () Records - there is nice space for that
- extra sensor support ( max 3 ) and ability to choose "primary one" ( showing them where Davis has ET/UV/Solar now and ability to change titles for them )
- Would be cool to simply add amount of rain manually and logs/daily stats would automatically sum it up. ( Rain add-on in Edit menu.. )
