That also makes it pretty conclusive that their website is a pile of p**.

I did indeed merely sign up as a test -- didn't use my real email address either; I have one reserved just for such things

Google does not have anything positive to say about it either

And WOT itself looks dodgy to me. But I definitely agree with it.

Although WOT is not perfect it's a pretty good guide to sites you shouldn't be visiting; albeit some that at worse only flood your inbox with spam.
You would be amazed how many sites (some promoted by Google itself) come up as dodgy.

I've been using it for ages and never go to red ringed sites even though I have very good security on this machine.
Firefox with WOT, NoScript and Adblock+ is a good security measure and stops most nasties.
WOT is also available for IE7/8 as well now.
Wouldn't be without it. ;)

Simple, get a spare Yahoo or Google email address; only takes a couple of minutes, and change it to that. You never need to look at that new email inbox again.
However if they are collecting email addresses they'll still have the old one and you may get spam, but you can block it in your filters if necessary.
Changing to an invalid email address probably wont work as it will keep the original one in the system. Needs to be a valid one.

I did not say that!

From what I've read about WOT, lots of sites get blacked for 'political' reasons, or because someone bears a grudge against the site owner.

It can happen Steve, but I think it's rare considering the millions of sites that get marked 'good' or 'bad'.

You need quite a few votes for a site to get rated so it's unlikely any individual would spend all day swapping IP addresses and IDs just to blacklist a rival site; and they would have to out-rate all the other users of that site that rated it 'good'.
You do see a few sites with good and bad reports though.

There are similar browser add-on around that I haven't tried but they are not meant to be perfect; just a guide. :)
Worth having if you trawl the net all day. :)

Ah .. so you you haven't yet realized what a lot of the 'black hat' worms / trojans do ?
