Couple of questions

Hi,

I'm new to Cumulus and am loving its ease of use and features. I have a couple of questions:

I see an occasional (~15% of the time) -32701 error when starting cumulus. I'm using a Davis VP2 and Weatherlink IP. After acknowledging the 32701 error, the gauges display real time uninterrupted data but the archives are not transferred. Might this just be a network glitch, or perhaps can Cumulus run into issues if it queries the VP2 at the same time as it's uploading to weatherlink.com? Either way, it's no big deal because in all cases I can restart it and the archive download works fine the next time.
Windows 7 64 bit, Linksys wrt610n router, version 1.8.8, and diag file attached.

Second one - again minor. I have a script that fires up Cumulus if the process is found to have died (I shut cumulus down when the PC sleeps). Is there any way to start Cumulus in minimised mode so a window doesn't pop up. This is mainly to appease the wife who wonders why the window keeps showing up when she's on :D

Yes, I think the problem is that it can't connect while Weatherlink IP is uploading (because of the rather odd design where the WL IP can only have one TCP/IP connection at a time). I'm surprised that it actually manages to do anything after that without a restart. The other side of this coin is that Weatherlink IP probably can't upload to weatherlink.com while Cumulus is connected. Davis don't appear to have documented this anywhere for third party software, so I don't know exactly what it is I'm supposed to do.

Doesn't the normal windows method of setting "Run: Minimized" in the shortcut work? I guess if you're not actually using a shortcut that might be a problem...

Steve, I have at least one Cumulus continuously getting its data from the WeatherLinkIP ... and the data on my 'weatherlink.com' page seems to be up-to-date (just checked).

So, I really do not know what exactly your suppose to do... :)

I've been asked a few times by WeatherlinkIP owners if I can do something about it, and VirtualVP has an option to disconnect once a minute to allow weatherlink.com uploads, so I suppose I could ask Steve Hatchett what he knows about it.

Thanks for the replies.

On the starting when minimised point, opening a shortcut leaves a cmd window hanging in the viewer, but this DOS command works well:

start /min <path to cumulus>

Yes, I can see how trying to stay out of the way of weatherlink's uploading is not much fun. Perhaps an option for WLIP owners could be to choose a 3 strikes option when connecting, such that Cumulus will try to connect and wait 10 seconds if it encounters a 32701. After three failed attempts it aborts and prints the 32701.

Yes, it probably does need something like that; to be honest I'd not even thought about the possibility of the weatherlink.com upload locking Cumulus out, just the other way around...
