Cumulus Support

Doesn't anyone think it would be nice to have an iPhone app for Cumulus?

I know there is a website PHP script that makes iCumulus, but that interface takes a while to load if your on an EDGE connection. (which I'm on 24/7 because AT&T doesn't cover this area with 3G) I would think that it would be faster to load mainly because it could possibly gather data from the realtime.txt file. Though, I do realize that those who don't own the Cumulus station they would be trying to access most likely have no clue where the realtime.txt file is--because some webmasters place it somewhere else. -.-' So, that would be a bit of a problem. iCumulus covers this issue because the webmaster configures that. I'm sure there's a way to get around that, but it would be a trial-and-error case.

Anyhow, it's just an idea (or possible a basis) for making an iApp for Cumulus. I would create one, but I don't have OS X anymore to get the iPhone SDK and code it.

Seems like a lot of trouble to just support 1 phone type.

A general purpose mobile designed website makes more sense since even the iPhone can access it even with its limited network bandwidth.

As for the issue of finding available stations and their data is not that a big of a hurdle....

One possibility would be an extension to the existing Cumulus User map to indicate which stations and where their data is located would be easy to add and provide an easy central look up point.

Then the app, any app, would only need to look at one place to find the sites that support it and not need to try to figure out what sites are available and how to access them.


The "limited network bandwidth" was a joke BTW...
