A future mod to disable rain counting.

Post by daj »

Can I put a suggestion on the table for Cumulus. Technically it should be for C2 as C1 is bug fixes only, however...

As I do my daily dust down of my instruments to clear the snow, a thought occurred...It would be great if I had a switch in Cumulus which ignored any tips in my rain gauge. Each time I dust down/clean the collector I need to come back and do some tweaking of the Cumulus data as a few tips have been counted. Also, as all this snow starts to melt, I would prefer not to count the melted snow in the rain gauge.

Thinking it through, and what I know of how Cumulus calculates rain, it may be quite difficult as you need to weak the ini file and edit the monthly file too. however, perhaps when you have ticked the option to freeze the rain it would remember the values and then do the editing by calculating the difference to keep rain ticks to zero during that period. It sounds simple, but I am sure it is not!!

The simply answer would be to disconnect the rain gauge, however the connector/transmitter is at the top of an 8 foot pole. The rain gauge is at the bottom!

This will be possible for C2 but as you've realised, quite tricky for C1 because of the way it uses the total counter and calculates everything relative to that.

I thought I'd replied to this hours ago ... must previewed and not posted

 Great Idea for DIY !

At least the Watson (sic) and the La Crosse are simple two-wire 'loop' circuits.

Why not build an 'extension' lead with a water-proof switch on the end :o

Give some of you the 'reach' to reposition your kit correctly :)
