Getting rain data from 1.9.4 Cumulus

Hello,
Got a Davis Pro 2 in December. Collecting data since then.
Just switched (sort of) from 1.9.4. Got the service running, IIS on local machine providing default web page to local LAN.
I have read ALOT about switching from 1.9.4 to latest MX. Seems like a great deal of fiddling for little gain for my purposes.
I don't need to get all the 1.9.4 data caught up as it is only three months, but I would like to get my rain monthly and yearly totals (or just year to date if that is all that is easily available).
Not sure if CreateMissing program will work with the 1.9.4 files, either.

Is there a way to get the rain caught up? I have looked at editing the datafiles from the MX dashboard and did not see a way that I could do this.

Admittedly I am brand new to this software so I probably am missing something obvious.
I am running both 1.9.4 and MX alternately so the data in the 1.9.4 is accurate.

Hi,
Since you have Cumulus 1 running fine leave that as is. For MX I'd try to run it (with Cumulus 1 stopped).
1. Copy in the full Cumulus1 Cumulus\data folder content to the new CumulusMX\data.
2. Copy in the Cumulus1 cumulus.ini or Cumulus.ini file and paste it/rename as Cumulus, ini to the new CumulusMX folder.
3. Start CumulusMX.

I know, quite a number of things have changed in the settings and Cumulus.ini, but this is a quick way to try it and doesn't impact your Cumulus1 install in any way.

The proper way is to install CumulusMX and run it without any data or Cumulus.ini setting file. After starting CumulusMX (again with Cumulus stopped) follow the DOS screen prompt to run in a browser URL localhost:8998\wizard.html and then fill in all the prompted settings. When that is done stop CumulusMX.
1. Copy in the full Cumulus1 \data folder content to the new CumulusMX\data.
2. Start CumulusMX again and in browser using url localhost:8998
Your Cumulus1 data should now be in CumulusMX.
3. Go through all the Settings screens to set up to your preference.

If you have the NOAA reports in Cumulus1, you can also copy the full contents to CumulusMX\Reports

Enjoy,
Paul

Paul,
I was hesitant to try your suggestion because the information in the Wikis and the forum about switching from such an old system said that it would not work.

Well, I did the data directory transfer and now all my 2022 data is visible. I got my rain total back, which was my main concern.

It seems to be working. Day/month/year rollover will tell the tale.

Thank you very much for the help.

Could you point us as to where you found this information because it is incorrect and needs to be changed?

It has always been a fairly easy process to move from Cumulus 1 to CumulusMX as Steve Loft designed it to be easy, so I am not sure why there is information saying otherwise.

It started for me at Migrating from Cumulus 1 to MX. (Top level?)
There is a sub-section 5, Migrating existing data files from legacy Cumulus to a recent build of MX that is very long and has several links to even more information on changes to make.
Configuration.ini, dayfile.txt, and ini files that may have problems due to time stamp differences, etc..

Any forum information I obtained I checked the date on the posts to makes sure I wasn't getting into
'old' version information.

Any other help I an give?
