Face Book ?
Face Book ?
Is there any thoughts of putting together a Face Book app so the weather data can be posted on Face Book? I don't have an account on Face Book but if I was going to set one up Weather is what I would like posted on that site.

Re: Face Book ?
I'm not clear of the point of posting weather to Facebook or Twitter for that matter. It would seem that if people are interested in weather in your area, they would get a lot more information by looking at your weather page than getting a small snippet of it on your Facebook or Twitter account.
Other published sites like Wunderground (Weather Underground) and CWOP provide more weather specific info and are a good place for your site to be found, but Facebook is not where I look for weather info.

Re: Face Book ?
I would guess that the free mobile access to facebook and/or twitter offered by some providers may be driving this, I have 4 people watching my weather twitter after only 24-hours of being live.

Getting people to watch your twitter can be done with ANY content, real or otherwise.
When I was publishing weather to Twitter I had endless people "watching" who had no other purpose that to spam their wares. There was no way to "approve" who is watching so I ended up turned it off because I didn't want to promote their spam to anyone that really wanted weather info.

Re: Face Book ?
It just an other way to get your info out into the world. Some people don't want to plow through someone web site just to find out what the temp was. In the second place most people in the US just go to the weather channel and put in there zip your weather station web site ain't going to come up. Now a person who know how to use google if they put (have to put in my zip) 44203 weather it will come up weather underground to my station as the first search but that is probably luck as I'm the only station in barberton oh. Some day when there are hundered of station in barberton you might never find my station.TNETWeather wrote:I'm not clear of the point of posting weather to Facebook or Twitter for that matter. Been doing this weather station stuff a long time back in the 90s and most people don't give a crap about you old weather data they just want to know it its going to rain tomorrow or what the temp is. I send my data to all the offical weather places only our creator knows why it just taking up space on some hard drive somewhere. No one care.
As for the twitter spamer you can go through and delete them but know one look at your twitter home page, People use program like twitterfall.com and just read the tweets that they search for. So if you go to twitterfall and search for weather you just get people posting about weather. Haven't used FaceBook but a think you could to the same there.

Re: Face Book ?
The fact spammers are watching your tweets does them little favours, I currently have two people watching my weather tweets who don't appear to be spammers, and two who are possibly spammers.
Thing is the spammer only gains if either you re-tweet their tweets, or follow their tweets.
Anyone genuinely following your tweets will only see your tweets, not the tweets of others (unless they visit your home page).
Tweets can be received by apps and gadgets, which can make an easy way to get live weather info on a mobile phone for instance.

The issue with "followers" is that if you go to someone's twitter page, you can see who is following them. Most of those followers were spam intentioned sites, and you can't without blocking each one that comes along, stop people from seeing that crap.
If they had a way to prevent followers' links from showing up, then it would make no difference.

but you can get a lot more info via a real mobile web page than you will ever get from a tweet due to the limits of the amount of data you can send...Tweets can be received by apps and gadgets, which can make an easy way to get live weather info on a mobile phone for instance.
