Davis VP2 no wind information in CumulusMX

Hello all,

We have a Davis Weatherstation VP2 and try to read it out using CumulusMX. Everything seems to work pretty well but we can't get any readings from the wind sensors. The sensors are connected though and we can see values changing on the console, however not when downloading the data to our computer. To be honest I don't have a clue where to start. Could you please help us out?

Kindest regards,

Switch on debug and and data logging in the Program Settings, let MX run for a while - say 20 mins, then post the latest MXdiags file here. Thanks.

Thank you so far! I've enabled the logging and attached you can find the log file.

Thanks, it appears your console is sending invalid wind data - values of 255 mph.

I would perform a complete power cycle of your console - power lead and batteries out for 20 seconds - then try again.

You also have a problem with your dayfile.txt. It is using a list separator of ";", but your system is set to use "," - your locale being set to "en-US"

Have you changed the system locale setting? If you are going to keep the en-US settings, then you will have to edit your dayfile.txt and change all the ";" characters to ",". But check your decimal characters first! If they are set to "," then they will need changing first - beware of later entries already using the ,. combination though.

Thanks for having a peek! The weatherstation is remote so I can't access it right now, but I will once I can. I shall have a look at the locale indeed! Noticed that in the log file as well.

This weekend I was able to do the power cycle. I pulled out the power cable and also the batteries. I then talked a bit with someone so I'm positive it was well over a minute the power was disconnected. I then inserted the batteries and connected the power cable.

The console was receiving information from the ISS and was displaying everything again on the display, including wind. I was then checking on the computer if wind information was there. I enabled the extra logging again in Cumulus and let it run for a while. I checked the dashboard but nothing about wind was showing up (0 values). I then checked the logs and it is exactly as it was in my second post of this thread.

What else could I do to solve this?

Sorry, but I've never come across this issue before.

The next steps I would try would be...

1. Power down again, and remove/insert the logger.

2. Change the console logging interval to another value, then change it back again. That forces the logger to clear its memory and start again.

But the issue would seem to be more fundamental - one for Davis support?

Thank you for your answer.

I'll try again next weekend.

How would you change the interval on the logger? Do you mean with cumulusmx?

You can set using either...
1. A terminal emulator and the SETPER command.
2. Using the Advanced Options in Cumulus MX.
3. Using the Davis WeatherLink desktop software.

Is this a Wired or Wireless Davis VP2.

I had issues along time ago on a Cabled Davis VP1 and it turned out to be an earth loop from the sensor to the Laptop.

It would all go fine and then the Wind Gusts would peak in the 100s all the time.

I fixed it by extra earthing.
