Inhibit data upload

Post by watsonm »

Hans,

Is there a quick and easy way to stop the utils data being uploaded (simulate a station failure !!).

I have a sensor failure (wind speed...need to replace but it's raining!!) and want to keep the cumulusmx stuff running.
I have disabled all the third party uploads as I dont want to pump out invalid data.

Mike...

    Hi Mike,

Most data are uploaded directly by CMX and you will have to stop it there (Internet Settings=>Normal Interval Settings=>Standard File Settings & Graph File Settings & Daily Graph File Settings & Real time Interval Settings ): Un-tick all generations of the datafiles and no data are send to the website.

The only data generated by CumulusUtils is generated by UserAskedData for the modules ChartsCompiler, AirLink and ExtraSensors. Most of that is implicit when running website so if you do not wish to send new data you better stop running CUtils temporarily (comment out in crontab).

But reading your issue, I think CUtils data is not the issue (although I understand you want to signal to the website that you have invalid data). If you have a sensor problem you would like to prevent erroneous data to be put in to the database because you will need to get them out of there. CUtils will after a restart read the database (and therefore the erroneous data) and puts on display whatever it reads. CUtils does not discriminate data with some supernatural intelligence: if you have 100 degree Celsius in your database, it reports 100 degree Celsius even though it would be slightly too high ;)

Maybe stopping CMX and getting/replacing a new sensor as quick as possible is the best solution, otherwise you will have to edit your database one way or another.

(And oh yes: I split this off to a new thread as it is really another topic)

    Hans,
Thanks... I eventuially realized that stopping the realtime data generation would do the job!

I also ackowledge your comment about the database being "corrupted".
