Extra Sensors

Post by LindaFNM »

I have tried to set up my Extra Sensors (WH31 and WH41) and have managed the framework, but no data. The first question is that does this work on the same principle as the website, e.g. that the realtime.txt file is in the web directory and updates the appropriate files please? If not, then my manual updating of the website obviously won’t work :)

So far I have got as far as the attached photo, please does anyone have any ideas?

There is a small spelling mistake in the wiki, it did catch me out
Operation

The compiler can be activated/used in two ways: implicit and explicit. Both methods require a file CutilsCharts.def containing the charts definitions to be present in the utils directory. A default file can be found in the distribution named: CutilsCharts-default-for-use.def. When the user renames this to CutilsChart.def it is ready for use.

Finally, I’m assuming that as the colours for the YADR are incorporated in the yadr.txt file, there isn’t any way of preserving these?

Thank you.

Hi Linda,

Well, the principle is the same, only the CUtils realtime files (for ExtraSensors and for AirLink devices) will be produced in the utils directory as a .txt file just like any other output of CumulusUtils. In that sense they are different.

Then you fill these in in CMX as extra webfiles with source the utils directory and destination wherever you want. Be sure to tick realtime, process and FTP because that is obviously what you did not because you show the webstags and not the values. The processed files should give you the values. As you do not use FTP, you probably are in troubled waters here, but you could give your wanted destination. It should work when the priviliges are OK.

BTW: With the W31 you get three sensors in one: Temp, Humidity and Dewpoint. You might want to adjust the names in strings.ini to avoid confusion.

Hope the above helps

Ehmmm.... I am missing the point here :groan:

My translation for preserving explains as saving. Why would you want to save these as obviously they are permanent and intrinsic?
Or do you want to change the colours. In that case I have to disappoint you. They are intentionally fixed with the legend at the bottom of the page.

Hans,

Thanks for a swift response as always!

I think I’m missing the extra MX webfiles, so I hope that’s my problem! I’ll apply my brain to that one a little later……

There’s a missing ‘s’ - the last line should read CutilsCharts.def not CutilsChart.def :bash: Now I do admit that if one was using one’s brain properly when doing this, it should be obvious. It did provide some extra entertainment until I finally realised I’d just copied without thinking

Yep, for preserving, I meant saving. OK. I’ll live with the dark grey then!!

For clarity, you must make some entry like this. As you are not using FTP, don't tick FTP and you must find a way to get the file on its destination. Because you are using all on one machine, probably the destination can be directly where you want it (make sure you have access to the destination).

      Aha...
And it is also in another chapter (ChartsCompiler i.s.o ExtraSensors) which took me some time before getting it :)
      But it's fixed!

      OK.

So it is not the colours you wish to change but only change the background colour(s)? I'll think about it.

I just prevented the background from being all white to have it calmer for the eye and I think it matches with a lot of other colours. But there are painters better equipped for colour combination than I am. So, why not? The colour scheme itself I regard as fixed and as a signature of the application. But even there: if somebody comes up with a really brilliant colour scheme I could incorporate it as a second default. But that should be a whole scheme, not just a change of one colour.

So far YADR has no configuration parameters. For the background I could do that in a next version but the colours would be a no go area for change unless a full scheme offered.

I will be changing the inifile and the language file handling anyway sometime because several parameters and language tags have become superfluous and can be (automatically) removed but that requires some boring work.

      Hans,

Thank you for the examples, it will help a lot I hope.

Thanks also for correcting the wiki - see, it does prove I’ve been reading it :D .

Don’t make a lot of extra work for yourself, I’m getting carried away changing the colours, and I still have to look at other things to make them work. The time people like yourself give freely to these things is greatly appreciated.
