LightningTime Webtag

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

LightningTime Webtag

Post by HansR »

It is not clear what the units are for the Ecowitt #LightningDistance. Assuming the setting of CMX (so it can be miles, km or ...). Is that true or is it always km?

Just had a look at mine.
On the Units Page, there doesn't seem to be an Option to change from km to miles as far as I can see.

On the Main Dashboard of the page it is all in km
live_light.PNG
So as far as I'm aware yes always in km

OK, thanks, I did not have the lucidy to look at the Ecowitt units. Indeed cannot change.

But if CMX uses the same unit as the wind run it will adapt to the units selected by the user.
I have km/hr so the distance is in km but if somebody has mi/hr that wind run will be in miles.
So that might be wrong for the lightning distance webtag then: must always be km for the lightning distance and not the windrun distance :?

I remember when Ecowitt implemented the lightning data in to the console, it was fixed to km. In an update, they added an option to show mi or km. On that basis, they simply added conversion code.

I did the same on my website, but I show both km and mi.

It is not so much what Ecowitt does, it is what unit the webtag returns: is it always in km or does CMX convert to the unit of the windrun (is what I understand from Mark).
Any conversion can be made, no problem, the question is: do I need to convert?

Why, I'm sure most users who use imperial units will want the distance in miles not km?

BTW, the dashboard Extra Sensors shows the units used by CMX.

Well I'm can't remember settings unit on Mx?

However it seems the Values on EcoWitt for me are set to km
Ecowitt_data.PNG
And MX is converting them (or taking them as miles)
MX_Data.PNG
At least my Data is shown as correct.
(Well apart from the False single strikes I seem to get every day)

There isn't a user setting, like wind run it is inferred from the windspeed units. Configure a metric windspeed and they use kilometres, otherwise miles.
