Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Hi,
As I've been really good, Santa bought me a WH1090 for Christmas.
I've set it all up and it is working fine except that the wind speed on the console is not the same as the wind speed on Cumulus. Cumulus always seems to read high - if the console reads 0 MPH (and the anemometer is not turning) Cumulus will read 0.7 to 2.2MPH. Is there anyway of correcting this? Presumably the muliplier would be no good as 0 times anything is still 0.
I've tried loading the bundled "Easyweather" and it seems to read exactly what the console reads.
Any help would be most gratefully received...
Dave J

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Ah... thank you Steve - that is exactly what is happening!
The "latest" wind speed on the WH1090 is displayed as the "average" wind on Cumulus.
The "gust" on the WH1090 is displayed as the "latest" on Cumulus.
There isn't a way of getting the "latest" on the WH1090 to display as the "latest" on Cumulus is there?
Thanks again,
Dave J

That's because that's what it is - the average.davejj wrote:The "latest" wind speed on the WH1090 is displayed as the "average" wind on Cumulus.
No, that wouldn't make sense. The 'latest' figure in Cumulus is the 'latest gust'.There isn't a way of getting the "latest" on the WH1090 to display as the "latest" on Cumulus is there?

I was trying not to get confused but I'm afraid I am a bit right now
...that means that the wind speed needle in Cumulus points to the "gust" rather than what the wind speed actually is at the moment?

Err .. gust is the 'now' wind speed, do you mean you want the (10min) average speed ?points to the "gust" rather than what the wind speed actually is at the moment

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Fine Offset stations don't actually have a concept of "wind speed at the moment" (in the sense of "instantaneous" wind speed). They supply two values; one is a 48-second average, which is what the console displays as "speed" and Cumulus displays as "average" (because it's an average) and the other is some sort of "peak gust" figure taken from a set of samples of unknown length over the same 48-second period; the console displays this latter figure as "gust" and Cumulus as "latest" (because it's the latest gust figure). Cumulus displays the highest of the latter figure in the last 10-minutes as the "gust" because this corresponds very approximately to some standard definitions of "gust"
The wind speed needle (assuming we're talking about the gauge in the top right corner of the main Cumulus screen) shows the "console gust"/"Cumulus latest" figure, the green arc shows the "console speed"/"Cumulus average" figure, and the red arc shows the highest of the needle figures in the last 10 minutes (the "Cumulus gust" figure).

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
On my WH1090, the wind speed is displayed in the middle of the wind direction circle - it is absolutly calm at the moment and it is reading 0.0MPH
The wind speed needle on Cumulus however, is pointing to 2.2MPH, although actually it is still dead calm outside, there is not 2.2MPH of wind.
From the Cumulus helpfile:
"The wind speed indicator shows three values; the needle shows the current snapshot of the wind speed, as read from the weather station. The green arc shows the current ten-minute average wind speed, and the red arc shows the recent highest gust (in the last ten minutes).
At the moment, as I look at the Cumulus wind speed needle, it is not showing "the current snapshot of the windspeed as read from the weather station", it is showing "the recent highest gust (in the last ten minutes)".
I was just wondering if it was possible to configure it to show "the current snapshot of the windspeed as read from the weather station", as the helpfile says it should.

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Do the three wind speeds shown as text show the same values as the gauge is showing? It sounds as though Cumulus has lost contact with the station and is displaying the last speed that it read.

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Actually, perhaps a screen shot would be best. And tell me what the console is showing for both gust and speed at the time you take the screen shot.

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
The three wind speeds and the texts all agree and the station is updating Cumulus successfully every ten seconds.
The only problem seems to be that the Cumulus windspeed needle is displaying the recent highest gust (in the last ten minutes) rather than the latest actual windspeed snapshot from the WH1090.

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
OK Steve, I'll send a screenshot. Unfortunately the wind has died right down now so I shall post a shot that will be more meaningful when it picks up again...
Thanks for your help,
Dave

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
I've attached a snapshot of Cumulus as it is being fed from my WH1090 - there may be a better way of doing this but I don't know it. Is this sufficient?
At the time of the snapshot the wind outside was a steady 1.6MPH - there had been a gust about 3 minutes ago of 4.5MPH

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
The screen shot is fine; what was the console showing for 'gust' at this time? Persumably it was showing 1.6 for speed.

Re: Wind discrepancy between PC and Console
Yes, it was showing 1.6 for speed and 4.5 for gust.
