Hi - FTP not working

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Hi - FTP not working

Post by M0SDM »

Hi,

I'm probably going to be one of those new annoying people which results in lots of head banging against a wall. To be honest I will possibly take more help than I can give.

I'm using the Raspberry Pi image and all is nearly working ok. CMX is connected to my Watson 8682 and the desktop is all ok, as is APRS. To be honest, this is about as far as my technical ability goes.

I've a couple of questions, how do I access the wxnow.txt files and how do I access the ftp log?

I have another pi which runs my amateur radio APRS station. This has a ftp folder, I have tried to get CMX to upload the wxnow.txt files here but I can't get it to work. From this point on I am totally stuck and out of my depth. These are the instructions I followed to set up the FTP folder; https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-ftp/ . The FTP is accessible as I can access it from another machine.

The end goal is to get the wxnow.txt data on to the APRS pi and using RF instead of the internet.

Thanks in advance,
Stewart

You need to :
  1. configure FTP in CMX (Settings=>Internet Settings=>Web/FTP Site)
  2. Make sure you transfer the wxnow.txt file (Settings=>Internet Settings=> Interval Configuration=>Normal Interval Settings=>Standard File Settings). Make sure to tick Generate and FTP transfer. If you wish other files to be transferred configure - in case of a weather website - them as well, otherwise probably only this one will do.
The logging is switched on in Program Settings and you will find the log in the MXdiags directory.

So does that mean your problems are solved or does it mean you have some additional issues?

Amazing it is now working. Annoyingly I don't know how I did it! CMX is uploading the wxnow.txt to another pi which is then using the wxnow.txt file.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Next task will be to update CMX.
