Little help - Cumulus MX with WifiLogger

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Little help - Cumulus MX with WifiLogger

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I'm trying to get WifiLogger to upload its data to my website, but all I get is the blank MX template. I've followed the instructions on the 'Setup Simple Website' page - copied the required web files via FTP to my public dir, tested with Wifilogger (I can see it produce the files on the FTP server), but the template stays blank. I would be grateful if somebody could help me out with this.

My website is HERE

As you can see, none of the data from my PWS is being produced onto the template. I already have my WifiLogger uploading data to Wunderground & Weathercloud, and tried Weather34 and it works flawlessly. I strongly believe this is user-error though and that I've simply missed something along the way. The instructions for Cumulus were to just dump the contents of the webfiles onto my public_html directory, which I did - I get the template, but can't upload anything to it. And as I said, when I test that data is being uploaded via FTP, it passes, and I see the files uploaded to my FTP directory, just nothing shows up on the template.

Have you ticked the box in Internet Settings / Interval settings that says I want to use the default web site and saved the page as this will automatically set all the things that are needed to run the default web site.

Hi David,

Do I still have to run the Cumulus software even if I'm using my own (Wifilogger's) hardware/software though? Those options are in the Cumulus software package, but WifiLogger has its own, which I'm using but to no avail. And also, how do I get the black template instead of the blue one?

I'm a bit confused, WifiLogger has nothing to do with Cumulus MX (other than be a source of data), how will a WifiLogger drive the Cumulus default web site? The web site requires files that CMX generates and FTPs.

As Mark says above yes you do still have to run the CumulusMX software as WiFilogger has nothing to do with the CumulusMX website other than providing the data to CumulusMX to upload.

Makes sense, thanks. So is my only option now to have a Cumulus server running on a second device locally?

Looks like you have WiFiLogger FTP current data export settings enabled to send Realtime.txt and wflexp.json https://maryborough-wx.com/realtime.txt and https://maryborough-wx.com/wflexp.json
The realtime.txt was an attempt by Wojtek to duplicate the Cumulus realtime.txt for those using that, but certain items are missing as they are not provided by the console. This compares the realtime files:

Some scripts, like Brian's original PWS, can use the WiFiLogger realtime.txt file but most would also use some of the additional items in the Cumulus realtime.
The wflexp.json was to capture all the data possible from the console, and to be used by script writers, which is not me ;)

Running CumulusMX with WiFiLogger, whether on PC or Pi, will allow you to run any of the scripts that are compatible with CumulusMX.

Thanks Paul. Yep, I live in Queensland and also have a brother who lives in Brisbane. :)

So I'm not too sure what my options are now. I did get Weather34 to work but I'm not a huge fan of the interface, and the same goes for PWSDashboard. I really wanted to use a Saratoga template but it's just far too complicated for me to set up since there's no specific guide for doing so with Wifilogger. The obvious answer to all these questions would be to just buy a 24/7 Pi but..eh. I already have an ODroid C2 collecting dust and I'd prefer to just upload directly from Wifilogger with no extra devices. :groan:

I have decided to set up Ubuntu on my old Odroid C2 and run Cumulus on that. :D
