OK. We had similar weather over here and although there were two major dips (see screenshot at between 14 and 15h and 1630 and 18h) I assume they are caused by the absence of heating power as the temperature was between 1 - 2 degrees Celsius, I assume the cold snow and the strong wind made the device freeze. It recovered when it got a bit warmer (above 4 degrees). So my WS80 did not flatline (anymore! still a month to go to final judgement)
I did update the firmware to the latest version. Did you?

My Mistake I see there is a new update from early march 22
WS80 firmware upgrade available:
2022.03.02: V1.2.1
1. FSK chip bus driver optimized to achieve better performance.
2. An correction to wind speed at SE or NW direction for better wind speed accuracy
3. Sensor ID generation Alogorithm improved.

Re: Ecowitt WS80 - winter issue in the lowlands
So after some small 5 months I close this issue as far as I am concerned. I updated the firmware to 1.2 and had no flat lining since.
With respect to the values received from the device the following:
The volatility really requires getting used to.
With respect to the values received from the device the following:
- It is on a pole 3 m above ground in an open space without buildings around in 50 m (completely free to the north, 40 meter from my house in the south). Visible on my meteocam. I gave it a correction factor of 1.2
- The values seem much more volatile than from a cup anemometer. I explain this thrpough the inertia present in the cup anemometer (increased when the anemometer gets dirty and 'spidered'.
- Because of the extreme sensitivity for air movement the sensor hardly ever reaches a value of zero average windspeed over 10 minutes.
The volatility really requires getting used to.
