Gosh, it's cold!

Post by daj »

I can't believe the temperatures I have been experiencing over the last few days.

Currently -11.4C and it is only 3pm so I know it will get worse. This morning at 9am it was -14.2. I was beginning to doubt my station but I have a few other measuring devices and they all offer a similar figure.

brrr!

No sign of any let-up in the near future, and more snow on its way to you, I think. Good job your heating's working :)

I think the lowest temperature I recorded in my one winter in Glenlivet was -20C.

Freezer? :?

Yeah, I'm so glad it only gets below freezing a few days of the year here in Louisiana. :) I wouldn't be able to stand below freezing temperatures for extended periods of time. D:

LOL -- like I need a freezer just now. Over the Holiday season I have all my beer bottles outside rather than hogging the fridge, so they are lovely and cold when I need them. Last night I filled a champagne bucket with snow and put the bottle in it :D

Ah you weaklings and complainers...

Some of you should spend some time in Edmonton (in Alberta, Canada) or in WInterpeg ... I mean Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada) where temperatures can stay for weeks between minus 30 to minus 50 Celsius and that is really really cold... (could not find a blue smilie)

Barely and not for long... One must be multi-layered dressed...

And inviting one's friends for a cold beer is not that popular... :D

Just been listening to our local radio UK report (By Malcolm Stewart) informing us of the massive snowfalls biggest since the 60's.
From what I hear you folk are really in for it for some time, up to 3 months he reckons.
I hope your stations pull through, but looks like the snow is screwing things up a bit.

We here in Melbourne AU have a forecast this weekend in the high 30's C a far cry from what you lot have.

I was in the London for the weekend in early december about 10 years ago and it was rather cold for me.

Caught the train from London to Darbyshire to visit relatives and for the first time in my life, I had snow actually fall on me. My Great Uncle told me that the weather was rather mild and took me for a drive to where the real snow was, great day it was.

Keep the heating on while I put the AC on.

Cheers

The cold has really intensified over the last 48 hours. Last night the Met Office station at Woodford in Cheshire recorded a low of -17.7C and my own station in a suburban garden 3 miles from Woodford recorded -11.1C - the lowest since it became operational last April. Oh, and we had 5 inches (13cm) of snow on Monday/Tuesday night.

Tonight could be even colder. Already it's -7.0C just 3 hours after sunset. Today's high was -1.1C.

I was a kid in Australia back in the winter of 1962/63 when we last had a really harsh winter although 1981/82 had very low temps for a while. My parents and I were "ten quid poms" as Oz wanted skilled tradesmen and my dad qualified. I often remember Christmas Day 1963 in Sydney when it hit 37C! :o
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Indeed! I've seen a few dodgy temps on WeatherUnderground stations too. Makes you wonder why people bother when their stations are so badly sited or inaccurate or both.
