Custom Upload Server.

Just been Experimenting with this for the hell of it via my GW1000.

What I attempted to do was upload to MyPublicIP:58998 & have 58998 forwarded to MyPC:8998.

Couldn't see why it shouldn't work & it does actually work.

Catch is though that the Admin interface (as expected) is also exposed on the WAN.

Does pose the question though as to whether this approach would be of use in any cases for remote stations & also whether the HTTP upload port could be detached from the main CMX port to isolate the interface from the WAN.

Cheers

Phil.

Nothing more that proof of concept that the data from an EW stations could arrive at a CMX destination over a WAN.

It works but exposes the interface.
But CMX does receive that data and behaves as if the station was local an on the same LAN.

You could run Apache at the remote site and proxy out just the data upload bit on another port.

I just setup an Ecowitt as provider of some AQ data from Phil (@Phil23 Australia) as extra sensors which I log to my CMX in NL. Setup just requires the IP and some port forwarding.
This way I can do some development and testing for extra sensors against a full working system without owning an Ecowitt myself (I will but that goes slow)

For support , checks and for me above all testing some development try-outs this is a great method.

Thanks to both @mcrossley (making http extra sensors available in CMX) and for @phil23 for setting this up and providing it for me!
If gives some extra dimension logging live data from the other side of the world giving life a spark of fun! Great work @Phil23 :D

Mind you the biggest stress factor was it not working initially, until you pointed out the "8" where there should have be a "2" in you IP Address.
Was feeling really flat about my philosophies until that error was pointed out.

Cheers.

Edit:- Should inform you that this comes with a cost @HanR , you need to keep an eye on the soil moisture in the garden & alert me if the irrigation system stops.
