Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity from Ecowitt GW1000

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity from Ecowitt GW1000

Post by lgeitner »

Hello,

I have upgraded to CumulusMX 3.12.0 b3141. My primary weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus Wireless Weather Station Model 6163. I have configured in Settings > Extra Sensor Settings an Ecowitt GW1000 Gateway. I also have a Ecowitt lighting sensor WH57 as well. The data from the lightning sensor does display on the Extra Sensors > Extra Sensors page. However, the Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity do not display on the Extra Sensors > Extra Sensors page.

I have enabled Data Logging under Settings > Program Settings

I can see in the log file shown below that the indoor temperature and indoor humidity is being sent from the GW1000 Gateway to Cumulus MX.

For some reason CumulusMX is not displaying the Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity on the Extra Sensors > Extra Sensors page. Does any one know why the Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity will not display on the Extra Sensors > Extra Sensors page?

Thanks,
Lance

I guess the reason is that the indoor temperature and humidity are observations from sensors of your primary station, your Davis station, and are not extra sensors.
If you had a GW1000 as your primary station, indoor temp/hum would not fall under the extra sensors but under your basic station sensors.

There is one exception. The WH45 5-in-1 combo sensor (meant to be used indoors) provides pm2.5, pm10, CO2 observations along with (indoor) temp/hum data.
But even those are not displayed on the extra sensor section of the extra sensor page (yet ?) if you have a WH45 (or Ambient AQIN) registered to your GW1000.
These two observations (T/H) could imo be added there in the CO2 sensor box!

extra sensor data from a GW1000 will be:
1-8 WH31 extra temp/hum sensors
1-8 WH51 soil moisture sensors
1-4 WH41/43 PM2.5 air quality sensors
1-8 WN34 soil or water temperature sensors
1-4 WN35 leaf wetness sensors
1 WH57 lightning sensor
you can look up all sensors possible with a GW1000 console at https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0

I guess I assumed the indoor temperature and indoor humidity from the ecowitt GW1000 would be considered extra sensors from my Davis stations indoor temperature and indoor humidity.

I will look into purchasing a WH31 extra temp/hum sensor and place it in the same room where my Ecowitt GW1000 is located. The WH31 is a very inexpensive sensor!

Thanks,
Lance

@Gyvate is correct, the "basic" station sensors temp/hum/wind/in-temp/in-hum are coming from your Davis. The GW1000 data will only be used from "extra" sensors - i.e. those listed and enabled on the Extra Sensor configuration page.

And what about adding the WH45 temp/hum measurements to the CO2 "box" ("CO2 sensor") on the extra sensor page ?
These T/H observations are like an extra Temp/Hum sensor, only from WH45 and not from a WH31/WN30 sensor.
It's a 5-in-1 combo sensor after all.
