Rain Not Registering as Hundredths

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Rain Not Registering as Hundredths

Post by sperry russ »

My newly installed CumuluxMX with Davis Pro 2 is not registering hundredths of rain. It will only register tenths of an inch. I looked at the monthly log file and see that it is only showing 0.0. In my previous Cumulus 1 log files it registered as 0.00. When I ran the configwizard when setting it up I set the station as inches. I checked the Cumulus.ini and it showed the setting as VPrainGaugeType=-1 (a minus in front of it). I changed it to VPrainGaugeType=1. Removing the minus made no difference.

Is this a limitation of CumulusMX? What can I do to set it to hundredths of an inch? I have searched the Forum and Wiki and can find no answer to this.

Hmm, it should have used hundredths by default for an inches Davis rain gauge, I'll look into that.

But you can change it manually under Station Settings > General Settings > Units > Advanced Options

Thanks. I was wracking my brain on this. I don't think Cumulus 1 had a setting for changing the decimal places. Did it?

Earlier today before I got your answer I was testing it by pouring water into my rain gauge. I got an email notification telling me there was a spike. I noticed on it that it said mm. That gave me a clue but I wasn't sure what was going on because as I said earlier I had everything set to inches.

True.

https://cumuluswiki.org/a/Cumulus.ini#T ... g_Settings has a column in the tables to show which settings were introduced in legacy (Cumulus 1) software and which are new in MX.

Yes, there is a lot of new things in CumulusMX. I have did extensive reading but there is a lot. The Wiki is kind of scattered and unorganized in places but that is usually the way it is with volunteer contributions.

Thanks.

I have fixed the set-up wizard in the next release so that it sets the decimal defaults appropriately for the selected units.
