wBox (weather box) in JSON version

Post by Smarmen »

This post is a continuation of a forum thread: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=16398&start=135

Hello dear friends :)
Finally I finished the preparations for the new Box version, adapted to read the forecast from the JSON file.
As the new version is NOT compatible with the old version I decided to start a new thread.

You can see the first results of my work here:
wBoxH3f.html horizontal version 1280x800px, forecast for three days http://andreovia.pl/weather/wBoxH3f.html
wBoxV2f.html vertical version 975x1560px, forecast for two days http://andreovia.pl/weather/wBoxV2f.html
wVARf.html set of variables obtained from the JSON file http://andreovia.pl/weather/wVARf.html
The launch of the new version is easier than the previous one.

The most important changes:
- A separate configuration file
- Direct will read the forecast from the JSON file
- Three days of forecasting at twelve intervals x 6 hours
- Day of week - additional information next to the interval icons
- Changed names of all forecast icons in ICO folder (forced by YR.NO) - I will share the renaming file
- Maximum / minimum temperature
- Graph of changes in atmospheric pressure
- Animated windsock
- UV radiation warning
- Compressed JS libraries - I will also provide uncompressed
- Some new pictures in IMG folder

Yesterday I was browsing again your versions of wBox and I was amazed by your creativity! It also turned out that, just like Big Daddy, I came up with the idea of an animated windsock :D

Now I'm testing the pages and working on the documentation. As soon as I'm ready (and it won't take long) I'll share everything.
I will be grateful for your comments  :D

Best wishes
Krzysiek

Hi Krzysiek,
Thanks for keeping up with the changes, and I look forward to downloading the new files and adding the new forecast method to my wBox, if I can work it out :D

I don’t think I have added anything new to mine for a while but I have one old tablet on my office desk and one in my main room which I look at all the time.

Keep up the good work.

Hi everyone :D
I have finished the first stage of work, or... so it seems to me :groan:

Everything is described and available here: http://www.andreovia.pl/jedrzejow-pogoda/wbox#wbox_en

It's best to start with a clean install

Check everything and write. I am going back to my garden

Hi Krzysiek,
Well done!
I have the new version at http://komokaweather.com/cumulusmx/wBoxH3f.html

The realmote.txt is being updated but I don't see the updated data/time on the page. Most likely a cache issue.

Enjoy,
Paul

I think you are correct about caching, Paul, as I see up-to-date data on that page.

Hi PaulMy :)
Your realtime.txt created by Cumulus MX is not being refreshed / uploaded cyclically - that's the problem.
Find a solution first in the Cumulus settings, or in the FTP permissions, which do not allow you to copy the new version realtime.txt.

Yes all my realtime files are current when I check through FileZilla and other templates are updating.
This appears to be similar caching issues as I encountered when the new CumulusMX default template were started but those now seem to be updating fine. Seeks like my host doesn't like all that additional updating ;)

Enjoy,

To realtime FileZilla is not needed - the file is uploaded by CumulusMX
This is Your realtime.txt file http://komokaweather.com/cumulusmx/realtime.txt - see time 10:44:27, here's the problem
1. Open Cumulus MX / Settings / Extra web files, check the settings realtime
2. Open Cumulus MX / Settings / Internet settings / Web/FTP settings / Upload interval and check Enable Realtime

When I look at http://komokaweather.com/cumulusmx/realtime.txt it is up-to-date (12:29) so it does indeed look like a cache setting needs tweaking.

Hi Krzysiek,
It is a caching issue of some type, and nothing to do with wBox, which works fine and shows current data for a short while when I do some local cache clearing and use another browser.

The link you posted and I clicked on at 12:18:00 does show an old realtime.txt
16/05/21 11:03:07 15.5 56 6.8 2.1 0.0 0 0.0 0.0 1024.2 - 1 km/h C hPa mm 14.6 +0.2 16.0 159.8 0.0 26.7 30 15.5 +0.4 15.7 09:56 5.7 02:27 4.3 04:44 17.1 02:29 1024.4 09:57 1022.0 02:14 3.11.1 3130 10.7 15.5 15.4 1.4 0.71 251 360 0.0 1 1 0 N 3577 ft 14.3 1.4 797 0 15.2
But realtime.txt on my webserver (using FileZilla to access remote site) at 12:18:30 is

Code: Select all

16/05/21 12:18:21 16.6 53 7.0 4.3 2.1 360 0.0 0.0 1024.1 N 1 km/h C hPa mm 18.6 +0.1 16.0 159.8 0.0 26.9 29 16.6 +0.5 17.2 11:45 5.7 02:27 4.3 04:44 17.1 02:29 1024.4 09:57 1022.0 02:14 3.11.1 3130 12.8 16.6 16.6 1.6 0.91 250 360 0.0 1 1 0 N 3938 ft 15.1 1.4 922 0 16.1
Using another browser at 12:18:05 shows

Code: Select all

16/05/21 09:57:24 15.7 57 7.2 2.1 0.0 0 0.0 0.0 1024.3 - 1 km/h C hPa mm 12.8 +0.3 16.0 159.8 0.0 26.8 28 15.7 +1.4 15.7 09:56 5.7 02:27 4.3 04:44 17.1 02:29 1024.3 09:55 1022.0 02:14 3.11.1 3130 6.4 15.7 15.7 0.6 0.48 141 360 0.0 1 1 0 N 3476 ft 14.6 1.4 623 0 15.4
I have realtime.txt being updated by 3 Cumulus programs in different website folders
www.komokaweather.com/weather/realtime.txt
www.komokaweather.com/cumulusmx/realtime.txt
www.komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll/realtime.txt
They are not all always current.

Enjoy,
Paul

Paul, does your hosting company allow you to use an .htaccess file? You can control cache times with this.

Hi freddie,
Yes I think so, as I have had several .htaccess files in my hosting root and subfolders, with content as had been suggested for other purposes by more brave and knowledgeable souls on the forums. However for various reasons that I can't remember, I have them all inactive now (renamed them). I am an expert :o in cut and paste, trial and error, but still shy away from more technical things

I had called my hosting provider, GoDaddy, several months ago on cache settings but they were not very helpful for me to understand.

Enjoy,
Paul

Greetings
I think I have found the possible cause; in the html files the inclusion of the file "<script type =" text/javascript "src =" lib/wBox.js "></script>" is missing
