Syntax Errors with Latest Version/Build

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Syntax Errors with Latest Version/Build

Post by Grimers »

Hi all,

I hope we're all well in these weird times!

I've recently updated MX to the latest version, but am now encountering random errors when loading my website pages including...

Code: Select all

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: startIndex cannot be larger than length of string. Parameter name: startIndex at System.String.Substring(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length) at CumulusMX.TokenParser.Parse3() at CumulusMX.TokenParser.ToString()
It could be something I've done but not sure.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Will

I had a look at your web site and could not see any errors?

Hi Mark,

They seem to happen randomly. I will take a screenshot when I next see one. Do you have any idea what that error means? Can't say it makes much sense! :D

Error just appeared again, here's what I've got in Chrome:

And this is the other less common error:

Is it causing an error in displaying the web page content or is this an error if you inspect/view source/console (can't quite remember what it is but can be used to debug pages).

It says you are using build 3116 on your website.

Do you notice that there was a new version of reatimegaugesT.txt that was released as part of that build and is in the \web folder. If you are running 3116 you should be using that version of realtimegaugesT.txt in your production web folder so it is processed correctly by MX.

I have had a couple of these systemargument errors also. No error in MXdiags file I could see. When it happens, the websitedata.json file is empty and consequently, no data tables in the web pages populate (nothing to populate with). After a cycle or two, everything seems to return to normal.

Sorry - just to add, I have checked the realtimegaugesT.txt file is the correct version.

@grwkak,

Yes, the web page doesn't display at all, just with one of those error messages.

@water01,

Yes, I'm using the updated realtimegaugesT file.

@liddelljs,

Interesting. The error does seem to point to MX and not the website itself by the looks of the error. I'm not using the new website template, though. Maybe it's something to do with old-style web tags being used?

Now, this when loading a page that isn't even using the realtimegauges.txt file. If you look closely "Newton Poppleford Weather" appears in random places...

Code: Select all

{"date":"<#date format=HH:mm>", "temp":"<#temp>", "tempTL":"<#tempTL>", "tempTH":"<#tempTH>", "intemp":"<#intemp>", "dew":"<#dew>", Newton Poppleford Weather#dewpointTL>", "dewpointTH":"<#dewNewton Poppleford Weatherptemp":"<#aNewton Poppleford WeathertempTL":"<#apptempTL>", "apptempTH":"<#apptempTH>", "feelslike":"<#feelslike>", "feelslikeTL":"<#feelslikeTL>", "feelslikeTH":"<#feelslikeTH>", "wchill":"<#wchill>", "wchillTL":"<#wchillTL>", "heatindex":"<#heatindex>", "heatindexTH":"<#heatindexTH>", "humidex":"<#humidex>", "wlatest":"<#wlatest>", "wspeed":"<#wspeed>", "wgust":"<#wgust>", "wgustTM":"<#wgustTM>", "bearing":"<#bearing>", "avgbearing":"<#avgbearing>", "press":"<#press>", "pressTL":"<#pressTL>", "pNewton Poppleford WeathersTH>", "pressL":"<#pressL>", "pressH":"<#pressH>", "rfall":"<#rfall>", "rrate":"<#rrate>", "rrateTM":"<#rrateTM>", "hum":"<#hum>", "humTL":"<#humTL>", "humTH":"<#humTH>", "inhum":"<#inhum>", "SensorContactLost":"<#SensorContactLost>", "forecast":"<#forecastenc>", "tempunit":"<#tempunitnodeg>", "windunit":"<#windunit>", "pressunit":"<#prNewton Poppleford "rainunit":"<#rainN 50° 42' 06"emptrend":"W 03° 18' 30"", "TtempT66 mTL>", "TtempTH":"<#TtempTH>", "TdewpointTL":"<#TdewpointTL>", "TdewpointTH":"<#TdewpointTH>", "TapptempTL":"<#TapptempTL>", "TapptempTH":"<#TapptempTH>", "TfeelslikeTL":"<#TfeelslikeTL>", "TfeelslikeTH":"<#TfeelslikeTH>", "TwchillTL":"<#TwchillTL>", "TheatindexTH":"<#TheatindexTH>", "TrrateTM":"<#TrrateTM>", "ThourlyrainTH":"<#ThourlyrainTH>", "LastRainTipISO":"<#LastRainTipISO>", "hourlyrainTH":"<#hourlyrainTH>", "ThumTL":"<#ThumTL>", "ThumTH":"<#ThumTH>", "TpressTL":"<#TpressTL>", "TpressTH":"<#TpressTH>", "presstrendval":"<#presstrendval>", "Tbeaufort":"<#Tbeaufort>", "TwgustTM":"<#TwgustTM>", "windTM":"<#windTM>", "bearingTM":"<#bearingTM>", "timeUTC":"<#timeUTC format=yyyy,M,d,H,m,s>", "BearingRangeFrom10":"<#BearingRangeFrom10>", "BearingRangeTo10":"<#BearingRangeTo10>", "UV":"<#UV>", "UVTH":"<#UVTH>", "SolarRad":"<#SolarRad>", "SolarTM":"<#solarTH>", "CNewton Poppleford Weather:"<#CurrentSolarMax>", "domwinddir":"<#domwinddir>", "WindRoseData":[<#WindRoseData>], "windrun"3.10.1n3116oudbasevalue":"<#cloudbasevalue>", "cloudbaseunit":"<#cloudbaseunit>", "version":"<#version>", "build":"<#build>", "ver":"12"}

Will, what is that text you are quoting there? I'm struggling to understand where this error is happening, and what the symptoms are.
That looks like some weird hybrid realtimegaugesT.txt template with stuff inserted into it.

Is that in your /webfiles folder, the file on the server, or what you are seeing in the dev tools for your browser?

Confirm please...

Are you running v3.10.1?
Do you have realtimeGaugesT.txt added to your extra files?
Do you have realtimeGauages.txt enabled and FTP enabled in your Internet Settings?

Hi all,

The issue seems to have gone now with the new build, thanks Mark! Now, I have another issue... MX is deciding to use this year's rainfall value in today's total & hourly rainfall value. I have tried changing the relevant files in the data folder, but every time MX starts it pulls in the yearly value for some reason!

Any ideas?

Cheers,

I think I had a similar event before.

when you add your extra rainfall for the year, it gets added to the day you add it. I think this is just the way CumulusMX deals with the extra rainfall addition.

If you use the rainfall editor you must leave Cumulus running and the totals will resolve in the files at the day rollover. If you restart Cumulus the changes will be lost (this is from memory).
