v3.10.0 - NOAA Year report does not generate

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

v3.10.0 - NOAA Year report does not generate

Post by AndyKF650 »

Hi

I have just uploaded and updated to release 3.10.0 build 3116 and all seems to work just fine with one exception on the local desktop interface. I do not have an external personal weather web site.

The NOAA reports on a monthly basis work fine but the NOAA yearly report will not generate. All my data files are copied to the new install and the historic graphs and dayfile look ok.

The attached screen shot shows the error.

Do you have any thoughts on a solution.

You need to take a look in the latest log file in the MXdiags folder and see what the error message is.

Hi Mark

I have attached the current MXdiags file from which I can see the instruction to create a monthly NOAA report and its subsequent save and also the instruction to create an annual NOAA report but no save message ( @ 10:19:10). These reports worked just fine on the last release.

Any thoughts would be good.

Odd, I would have expected an error message. Can you switch on debug logging and try it again please.

Actually looking at the code there is very little outputting of error messages around creating the reports. I'll improve that for the next release.

You may have to post your dayfile.txt and I'll have to run through the debugger it is see what the issue is.

I have run the MXdiags with debugger enabled and run the creation of monthly and yearly NOAA reports @11:51:20, I think as you expected no error reports are showing.

The MXdiags and dayfile.txt files are attached. I hope this helps.

I can see that you have put a lot of work into this release which is appreciated, but with these things there are small bugs which crop up unchecked.

Keep up the great work

Andrew

Well, what do know - the yearly report for 2021 generates and saves fine for me using your dayfile.txt

Hi Mark

After going out for a walk to clear my head and consider the options, I cleared CMX entirely from the RPi and rebuilt from scratch. This got rid of any residual stuff from the past 6 months and then added the data file back in. The NOAA files both monthly and yearly now work as expected which is great and as you indicated from your own system.

Now I will reconfigure the desktop to the way I want to see it and hopefully all will work again.

Thanks for your patience in my support

Hi Mark,

Excellent upgrade so far apart from a couple of issues :-

I'm also having the same issue with NOAA yearly reports on Build 3116, the monthly ones auto update ok, and will re-generate if the button is clicked. The yearly ones don't update automatically, and give the same error if you try to re-generate them. No issues with them in the previous 3.9.x version of MX. I get nothing error wise logged in regards to generating them in the MXDiags folder as you predicted. I've been through all the NOAA settings and checked what is there is correct, and actually re-entered the data in all NOAA fields just in case there was some hidden characters causing issues.

Also the Daily Temp button appears to be missing from the Charts/Trends page, but it is there on the MX console page.

You've been busy using the template pages I see! :)

I think I'm going to have to make a debug build available to somebody having this issue as I cannot see what the problem is.

Can you check your Graph data series visibility for me, and ensure at least one of the daily temp options is enabled?

Yes - I spent a bit of time yesterday "badly hacking code together" to get it to work - not fully happy as yet with the results but it mostly appears to work.

I've checked the graphing options for Data Series Visibility and they are all enabled. I've noticed it's missing on a few other peoples sites who have posted queries and links - although they may have the bits turned off.

Well the NOAA reports still seem to cause me problems despite my earlier indications. When there was no data in the monthly temp and rain and address setup fields the reports seemed to work but as soon as extra data was included the yearly report failed to save/generate but the monthly one worked as expected.

I have been back to the RPi CMX setup a couple of times now and get the same results. (Too much time on my hands!)

And both Generate and FTP are enabled for the availabledata.json file under: Internet Settings|Web/FTP Settings|Interval Settings|Graph File Settings?
Yes both enabled - and the file is in the root of the website, and appears to have the selected options in it.
