Cumulus Support

I ask because cumulus "updates" every 10 seconds on mine

Is this Correct & can I change the interval????

Keith, there are two (2) types of updates built in Cumulus - the realtime update (realtime.txt) and the general file update (Web pages and graphic images).

Unless your Web pages are being viewed by people that depend (or rely) on up-to-date weather information (such as a radio station), then the general file update can be anything between 5 and 15 minutes - the realtime update can be anything between 5 and 300+ seconds.

If you are using PHP designed pages (such as those published by THE beetlejuice ) then the realtime update should be no more than 5 seconds.

Thanks for that but I didn't mean Web updates I meant Station updates ........i.e. from my station to my Cumulus program On my cumulus screen .........On the "personal Screen" on my PC in the bottom right corner the time is displayed as

"Last Updated on" XXXXXX

this changes every 10 seconds I.e. it reads the station every 10 seconds............which I feel is a bit "frequent" perhaps every 15 to 30 secs would be sufficient.

& Terry, Yeah mate .......................my mind is running at 50 million miles an hour so sleeping last night wasn't an option!!!!

I checked all the Cumulus setting and I could not find any location where the time between 'data read' can be adjusted ... but then again, I need a new LCD monitor with larger fonts or new computer reading glasses...

Thats what I've got...............But I'd like it to update every 30 Secs or so & not EVERY 10 seconds

But I think it will depend to some degree on what your base station is.

eg. My La Crosse wx updates every 8s, and Cumulus seems to be aware of that and reads in synchronicity with that.

So, I assume, Cumulus polls the comm port and if it can detect a 'data' received flag, then 'reads' it.

In the Watson (sic) case, I think probably there is no update flag to detect, so a 10s default is imposed.

But then again ..........

Besides, why are you concerned about the apparent read rate ? - that has nothing to do with any of the log rates etc.

i was being "picky" really.........as I use the 3D option on the graphs it makes me eyes go "funny" looking at it Do I really need a 10 sec interval i would have thought 30 to 45 secs or even every minute would have been sufficient ............

As has been stated elswhere, your real (Watson) sample rate is no faster than 48s.

thats the SAME thing I get on my HOME PC ...................Suggestions????

That's the way it should look

Your are seeing the difference between your Cumulus log rate (1m ?), and the base station log rate (30m ?)

Your station updates every 48 seconds. Because Cumulus has no idea when it's actually going to update, it reads the data every 10 seconds, to catch it within a reasonable time of it updating.

The graphs are plotted at 1-minute intervals while Cumulus is running; this isn't related to the data update rate. When you start Cumulus up, it downloads the data from the logger and adds it to the log files. It then plots the graphs using the last 24 hours worth of data from the log files; so the plot interval you see at start up comes from a combination of the station logger interval and the Cumulus logging interval (but I recommend having them set to the same value anyway).

There's currently no way to adjust the 'live' 1-minute plotting rate.

Ok steve I follow that ....But.......... i just wondered why there was such an increase in Graph plots between PRIOR to 3:30 AM yesterday & POST 3:30am

if you look BEFORE 3:30AM the wind graph is plotted approx every 30 Mins AFTER 3:30AM its plotted every minute It "Looks" like a parameter has been changed somewhere

Actually ..............YEAH I DID!!!..................I am posulating a theory here ............As daj knows when I installed my station within 12 hours some LOON that lives in the house backing on to mine ............NOTICED IT & promptly went out & bought one himself!!!!...........SHEEP!!!!

Question? is it possible I'm picking up HIS data as well as my own ...............MY station is 20 feet from my logger & his is only another 30ish feet past mine.

If I am .........anyone know where I can buy a stick of Dynamite to blow his up!!!!!!!
