Ok, a Unigas burner is a rebadged Reillo Domestic unit, Could be 2 things here (Depending on the model)

IF its a 2 stage burner it will ignite on "Low Flame" whilst the Flame rectification probe "Checks" it has indeed ignited the probe needs to "Sense" about 30 millivolts from the flame IF the probe is "CAGGED UP" i.e. its got a "sooty end" it will not sense the flame correctly & pop the reset button

Solution...............swing out the burner & you'll see TWO probes 1 for the spark & 1 for the Rectification give em both a clean with a bit of emery paper (til their nice & shiney)

IF it's a "soft Start" burner then there will only be ONE probe (The Spark Probe) the flame sensing is done via a UV cell

Solution................roughtly same as above, clean the spark probe with a bit of emery paper & wipe the UV cell with a cloth with a bit of ACETONE on it............OK, Ok I can hear you now "where the hell do I get ACETONE from" You'd be surprised........................NAIL VARNISH REMOVER is 85% ACETONE.......So, go raid the Mrs's make up bag!!!!!

And for good measure..............the reason the Aga works better in a high wind is ..............it causes a greater "Flue Pull" on the burner chamber For the techy reading this its called a Venturi action (Same thing as when you blow over the top of a empty bottle, the noise it makes is the sound of the air inside being pulled out but the force of the wind over the top)

On a calm day you'll have a column of Cold Static Air sitting in yer Flue!! (Oooo Eerrrr MRS!!!) The burner has to push that out before it can set up a sufficient Venturi action for the burner to fire correctly & achieve "Complete Combustion"

If you need any "BITS" Probes, UV cells ect ect ............let me know & I'll get em from Reillo at cost for you!!!!

All the Best

Keith, you're a genius! I cleaned the probes (it has two) with emery paper, and it fired up without a hitch. It's moderately windy today, though, and I didn't think to try it before I started fiddling to see if it would light today anyway, so I guess I won't know for certain that it's fixed until it consistently lights for a few days - but it's looking pretty good - many thanks, we have a warm kitchen!
