Cumulus Release 3099 randomware recovery problem

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Cumulus Release 3099 randomware recovery problem

Post by Joe Curtis »

I have suffered a randomware attack on my network which got to the RPI running CumulusMX. Although this is incrementally backed up the full back was also affected. Having cleaned the system (as far as I can tell) I have downloaded 3099 (I was on 3097) but on trying to restart I got the following:-

pi@******:~ $ cd /home/pi/CumulusMX
pi@******:~/CumulusMX $ sudo mono CumulusMX.exe
Cumulus MX v.3.9.4 build 3099
Working Dir: /home/pi/CumulusMX/
Station type not set
Cumulus running at: http://*:8998/

Press Enter to terminate

I have used the complete download with the exception of the web layouts which are my own.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. MXdiags.txt attached.

Do you not have a copy of your Cumulus.ini file that you can use?

Anyway, are you starting Cumulus using sudo? It looks like it does not have permission to start its internal web service.

My first thought was that something else may be using port 8998.

I have gone back to 3097 and copied in a valid cumulus.ini file and it works ok.
Would a missing ini file have caused the problem?
