Davis Vue help

Post by tomcatuk »

The Vue appears to be working well but noticed today it shows for the moon as being full/New (all segments black) when it should be waning (I'm no expert with moon phases) which moves me onto the co-ordinates you have to put in, I am in the northern hemisphere but not sure about getting the co-ordinates correct....
Time and year is correct and I entered
Lat North 51.3 and Lat West 019.4
My gps says I am at
N51°33.162'
W000°19.409'

Anyone advise if what I have put in are correct?

51 deg 33.162 minutes is 51.55 to 2 dp's. Zero degrees 19.409 minutes is 0.32 degrees. So the latitude you've entered is a bit out, and your longitude (note: it's longitude for West, not latitude) is a long way out.

But this shouldn't make any difference to the moon phase anyway. The moon is very nearly new (it's at about 3% as I type) so the little indicator on the Vue is doing its best to the resolution it has available.

Hi Steve, was in a bit of a rush to send that so a slight typo with the latitude and longitude spelling....

Regarding the moon I found this and only expected one out the four segments to be black, but.......

After re-reading the manual, a new moon should be all black, I was getting confused with full and new should be clear on the display told you I know nothing about the moon.... ;-)

Latitude North has 00.0 so entered 51.5
Longitude West has 000.0 so I simply entered now 000.3

And keep being told about the Geminid's meteor shower...:-)

To be honest I find it a bit confusing too (the VP2 is the same). It's logical, a new moon being all black, but somehow my brain just wants to interpret it as 'full'.

Neat. The VP2 doesn't do that. Hmm... possible Cumulus enhancement...

Steve, the VP2 might not display those messages but the VP2 does a lot more...
