To Reboot or not to Reboot

I have Cumulus MX running headless on a dedicated Raspberry Pi 4b booting and running from a USB hard disk.

I have a Cron script that at 3am stops Cumulus, zips up the Cumulus folder and then copies the zip file to a network hard disk.

I know I could just backup the data folder but this way I have an up to date copy of everything!

I have seen suggestions that I also reboot the Pi nightly.

What are the thoughts on this??

I reboot my Pi maybe every 3 to 6 months depending on how often I apply OS/firmware updates.

I have one test Pi Zero running Cumulus that has been going for about 9 months now (both the OS and Cumulus) - it doesn't often get updated!

I stop Cumulus daily to backup the whole directory structure to my NAS.
My RPi is now already running for 8+ weeks and I will have it run as long as possible.
I don't foresee any necessary updates within a year or two (which does not mean I won't do it)

I guess that's a "no" to nightly reboots then!!

I think if you have a Pi that needs a daily reboot, you have some serious issues that need looking into.
