No Weather Data Displayed / Using Davis VP2

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

No Weather Data Displayed / Using Davis VP2

Post by ShawnInPaso »

I've been a long time user of Cumulus V.1 and today decided to install the latest version of Cumulus MX.

I've configured the settings using the same info as the previously working V.1 (e.g. COM6). The settings were successfully saved but no weather data is displayed on Cumulus. I did confirm via the device manager that COM6 is still correct. Beyond the station settings, are the other changes required to acquire data from the VP2?

Thank you,
Shawn

PS. I did read many posts about this issue before creating my post, couldn't find the solution.

Hi Shawn,
There have been some significant additions in CumulusMX but no, there shouldn't be anything different to make it run. Did you use the Cumulus1 cumulus.ini settings file? (renamed as Cumulus.ini -capital C - if it wasn't already with capital C)
Have you looked at the MXdiags to see if there is anything there that would be helpful? You can zip it and attach in a reply post.

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your kind and speedy reply. I installed CumulusMX in a separate folder from V.1 and hence using a new Cumulus.ini file. So I went about comparing the old and new .ini file to see how they compare and couldn't find any obvious issues. Then I did look at the diag file and was ready to zip it up, but low and behold when I restarted CumulusMX all was good.

I really wish I could tell you what changed to make it so, but I honestly have no idea. In any event, the all the data is there and this new version sure is an pleasure to look at.

Thanks again for your help; this has always been a great forum.

Did you make the change to the COM port, save it, stop Cumulus MX and then restart it as that is the procedure to make sure it picks up the port. It does not pick up the port on the fly, as Cumulus.ini gets read at start up to pick up the port.

The com port remained the same but at some point I did disconnect and then reconnect the cable to the VP2. Maybe that did it and it just took some time to recognize it?
