Hi, I noticed when starting MX that I wasn't running the latest version. I downloaded 3069, renamed the folder of the previous version and copied over the CumulusMX.exe.config file to the new folder. (Win 10 & both old and new folders in the programs folder) I then decided to change a few settings but when I came to save got the error message shown on the attached file. Also attached the logfile. Anyone any ideas please?
Thanks!

There was a whole lot of changes to the Admin interface and a new JSON package. Did you also copy all the Interface files and the new packages and delete the old JSON package?

Hello David, Thanks for responding. I simply unzipped the download (3096) and used it in it's entirety. The only file I used from the older install (3094) was CumulusMX.exe.config

You don't need CumulusMX.exe.config
Have you tried doing a force refresh (CTRL + F5) of your browser whilst viewing the MX interface? It's possible your browser is using cached copy from the previous release.

You *MUST* use the CumulusMX.exe.config file from 3096.
The only file you need to copy across (apart from all your data and reports of course!) is Cumulus.ini

Deleting the Newtonsoft.Json.dll was advised but I sincerely hope it is not a requirement because CumulusUtils still depends on it.

Re: updated to 3096 - can't save settings
Thanks Mark! I had more or less arrived at that conclusion. However I feel I'm going down a rabbit hole here:
I'm now describing my previous 3094 installation which was purely the unzipped download. The station had been running for several hours and I was able to use the dashboard. Despite the fact that I had set up the station settings and successfully saved them there was no Cumulus.ini file! There was nothing in the backup folder except the daily folder which was empty other than .gitignore (show hidden files and folders is enabled). But every time I ran Cumulus all the settings were there, as was historical data?
Moving forward I deleted the 3094 Cumulus folder and the 3096 folder (with the wrong CumulusMX.exe.config file). This left nothing Cumulus related on the laptop.
I downloaded the 3096 zip again, unzipped it and moved the CumulusMX folder within to my Program files folder. I did nothing else.
Ran CumulusMX (from the folder - no short cut) and it found my Ecowitt station. I went to set up all the station settings again and they were already there!? Latitude, Longitude, name etc. Even the brief historical data it's accumulated over the last couple of days of tinkering is there. There is now a Cumulus.ini and dated & timed folders in the (3096) backup folder.
Where did this all coming from? Does it get kept outside of the CumulusMX folder as well?
The upside is that everything is running as it should and, of course, the settings now save. Which is all great. I just need to understand................
And yes, I know this all makes me sound like a crazy person/idiot.

Do not install in "Program Files", that is a protected area and programs are not allowed to create files there.
If you do, any writes to files will be redirected to the "Program Files" area. In there you will find your config and data.

Thanks Mark!
Of course. I did know that but seldom used knowledge is easily forgotten. CumulusMX folder moved to C:\
Data and .ini files were actually being written to C:\users\Tony\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramFiles\CumulusMX --- no wonder I couldn't find them! If I hadn't used the 'Program Files' folder none of this would have happened. Also, when I changed versions I'd have seen the .ini file and used it.
