Heeeeeeeelp, please!

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Heeeeeeeelp, please!

Hi peeps, I am not particularly computer savvy, but have been running Cumulus for several years, during which time it trundled along happily.

Unfortunately, I recently had some sort of episode which killed Cumulus. I installed the latest version and, according to the DOS style window, Cumulus is running - but when I try to view things via the web browser, I get the message "localhost:8998 says Connection is closed."

I suspect this is some sort of Firewall problem, but have no idea as to how to remedy it. Anybody out there with a lot of patience able to help me work through the problem, please?

Did you minimize the DOS screen before going to the browser? Or did you perhaps close that DOS screen? It needs to be left running, minimized in the background.

If that is not the issue then zip up the latest file in \CumulusMX\MXdiags

Enjoy,.

Cumulus is running, and updating the data files. But I get that error message when I try to look at real time data. So the dashboard, Now, and gauges pages are "dead", but he interface and charts pages show the data is being recorded.

If that is not the issue then zip up the latest file in \CumulusMX\MXdiags
In Settings - Station - Options enable Debug logging, after a few minutes do the above.

Enjoy,

I think I am overlooking something obvious, but as I am not expert in these things, I haven't a clue what it might be. The realtime gauges are working on my website , but are completely dead when I try to look at 'em on localhost, as I stated before. see: http://www.new.avochweather.info/gauges.htm

Actually, on closer inspection, the gauges are NOT working on the website, either - but the graphs are getting uploaded ok.........

The gauges data is being uploaded to your website - but the values aren't changing for some reason. Probably related to the below.

Connection from MX to your weather station appears to be working initially (it downloads the archive data just fine), but then becomes a bit flaky. I see a lot of these messages in your diags file which suggests a connection problem:

Code: Select all

2020-10-24 07:57:30.444 SendLoopCommand: Sending command LOOP 20, attempt 1
2020-10-24 07:57:30.444 SendLoopCommand: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:30.444 WaitForACK: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 WaitForAck: timed out
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 SendLoopCommand: Sending command LOOP 20, attempt 2
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 SendLoopCommand: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 WaitForACK: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 WaitForAck: timed out
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 SendLoopCommand: Sending command LOOP 20, attempt 3
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 SendLoopCommand: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 WaitForACK: Wait for ACK
2020-10-24 07:57:31.350 WaitForAck: timed out

Code: Select all

2020-10-24 07:55:54.993 Debug logging is disabled
2020-10-24 07:55:54.993 Data logging is disabled
If you switch these two on, it would be useful.

Code: Select all

2020-10-24 07:56:21.399 Realtime[2]: Extra realtime web file[1] not found - C:\Cumulus MX\web\gauges-ssT.htm
2020-10-24 07:56:21.399 Realtime[2]: Extra realtime web file[2] not found - C:\CumulusMX\web\realtime.xml
MX can't find these two files.

Thanks for looking at those for me. I have been doing some tinkering, but not sure whether I am making things worse. I can see those two files now, but not sure why MX can't - unless I have added them since running the debugging thingy.

So.........I have temporarily disabled my old setup, and performed a completely new install. (For now, I am just completely disregarding the web site). What I have found is that when I run it on localhost, my previous customised gauges and charts are displayed, rather than what I would expect from a fresh install. Does that help narrow down the problem?

BRILLIANT! Thank you! That has made it come alive again, which gives me hope. But can I restore my customisations by importing the old html pages into the setup, or do I have to customise from scratch? Heck this is tricky!

Take a back-up of your working setup first. Then try importing your changes. If it works - brilliant. If it doesn't, restore your working setup from backup and try customising from scratch.

Thanks for your pointers. Glad to say that (touch wood), all is back up and running. Just need to sort out a few tweaks that are cosmetic, but functionality is restored! Phew!!!
