Moving Cumulus to another folder

I realised recently that Cumulus installed itself to Program Files (x86) when I first installed it, and there it has stayed since.

I've not had any problems with it (apart from occasional corruptrion of extracted data, probably due to noted problems using serial-USB with a La Crosse station (possibly fixed now as I've added a serial-PCI card to give me a real spare serial port, all working perfectly so far!).

However, mindful of the fact that it is recommended to install Cumulus directly the root directory on the C drive, I want to move it to there, not in Program Files.

Could you confirm, that if I install the Cumulus application to the root drive on C, what I would then need to do in order to carry over all the data and settings? Presumably, once installed on the C drive, I could copy over the entire Cumulus folder as currently residing in c:/Program Files (x86) and overwriting the newly installed program folder in the C root directory ?

Steve, are you having problems running Cumulus from the 'C:\Program Files\Cumulus' sub-directory?

If not, then you do not have to move Cumulus to a root directory (ie: 'C:\Cumulus'). :?

You only have to remember that the data files produced by Cumulus are not produced (anymore) in the Cumulus sub-directory but in a hidden sub-directory off the root, in the 'C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Cumulus' directory.

To see and edit the files I use an excellent (compared to Microsoft Explorer) file browser called XYplorer.

But, if you really feel obligated to move/transfer Cumulus to a root directory (ie: 'C:\Cumulus'), then I will let Steve (the 'Big Boss') guide you through the required steps...

As Ray says, the only issue is that some of your files are in the installation folder, and some of them are in 'Virtual Store' (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Cumulus), which can be confusing.

If you do want to reinstall to somewhere else, then you can do as you suggest, but remember that you will also have to merge in the files from the virtual store location.

Steve (not the 'Big Boss' Steve), you now need to get a good file browser that will give you access to the location where the Cumulus data files are saved... ;)

Depends where you've installed it and whether it's running elevated or not. And probably also whether or not you've disabled UAC.
