Win 7 issues

Post by iancandler »

I am having problems using cumulus with win 7.

every time I shut the system down or restart the program runs but hangs trying to get data from my weather station.
I then have to uninstall and remove all app data before I can re install and run it again, obviously I loose all my data.

Doing a clean install then adding the old data causes it to hang at the same point again.

I have tried un ticking the suspend button in the config screen but to no avail.

It's annoying as I prefer cumulus to any of the data logging software available.

Bug report attached below.

This is the same problem that someone else is having at the moment in another thread.

exception class : EAccessViolation
exception message : Access violation at address 72E51B10. Read of address 72E51B10.

thread $5a4 (TJvHidDeviceReadThread):
72e51b10 +00 ???
00662c1c +24 cumulus.exe JvHidControllerClass TJvHidDevice.GetCaps
006620b5 +1d cumulus.exe JvHidControllerClass TJvHidDeviceReadThread.Execute

They haven't said what OS they're using. Basically, the USB driver is crashing trying to interrogate Windows about the USB details of the station. I don't understand why having old data makes a difference; this is very early on when it's first trying to find the station.

Could you zip up the diags folder and attach it here, please?

I've just realised you're running an old version of Cumulus. It would be worth getting 1.8.8 and trying that to see if it helps. And avoid installing to Program Files (see the readme).

I changed to 1.8.8 yesterday and it crashed a few mins ago with the same thing, of course I knew I had to delete ALL cumulus files in order to re install so the diag folder went.
I assume this installation will crash when I next shut down, so will zip and post the folder then.

Just to confirm that I have been running Cumulus, including earlier versions, without problems on Win 7 Home for around 6 months (including the Beta version).
After problems with Vista insisting on changing things!!!!!, Cumulus is not installed under C:/Program files/ but directly as C:/Cumulus as Steve suggested.

Problem now solved.

What you have to do is make sure no other devices are plugged into USB ports, especially the IPhone lead it seems.
Then DO NOT use restart, but first always close cumulus so it isnt running at all, then shut the computer down, on booting, cumulus will work properly, but not if you use restart or reboot.

I have it running successfully with a number of other USB devices connected. But, whatever works for you...
