Cumulus 1 vs MX

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Cumulus 1 vs MX

Post by Redshift48 »

I have been running a Davis Vantage Pro 2 PWS for several years at my observatory. I have been ftp'ing data to my website from the station using a data logger. I have not been impressed with the WeatherLink display format but still used it. I recently installed Cumulus 1 and was very impressed with the display and data as compared to WeatherLink. I was planning to switch over and use it for my web site presentation but I read that Cum 1 was no longer being supported and MX was the new guy on the block. I had no trouble installing and setting up Cum 1 but I am fairly lost with the setup for MX. I use Windows 10 on my main computer and every time I tried to run the executable, I would get a message in the command window telling me to quit. My first question is will Cum 1 completely go away? Second question: how much better will MX be than Cum 1 for what I want to do (display weather parameters on my web site)? And finally, if I need to go with MX, where am I going wrong with installation? I am not overly computer savy so I may be missing something simple. Hope I can get some help here. Thanks.

Not likely as it still works great, however there is no longer any updates or new features so it will stay as it is.

Cumulus1 and CVumulus are virtually the same uploads to the standard Cumulus web template except for the trends graphs.
The steelseries gauges are incorporated in CumulusMX while they need to be installed separately in Cumulus1. There are other features in CumulusMX that are not in Cumulus1 and new features are being added to CumulusMX on an ongoing basis as you may have seen from the version update notices.
And finally, if I need to go with MX, where am I going wrong with installation?
I would get a message in the command window telling me to quit.
Are you starting CumulusMX as Administrator? Right click on CumulusMX.exe and click Run as administrator.
After you do the Run, can you go to the \Cumul;usMX folder and open the MXdiags folder and is there a current dated file such as 20200811-xxxxx?
This file would give you some diagnostics to help identify an issue.

Enjoy,
Paul

cumulusmx.exe does not have a GUI as such. it has a webpage that you can view all your data and settings etc. Checkup the wiki to see how to run CumulusMX in Windows:
