Welcome to the Cumulus Support forum.

Latest Cumulus MX V4 release 4.0.1 (build 4023) - 16 May 2024

(Note that 4.1.0 (build 4024) - 05 June 2024 remains available, but usage of this version is not recommended - particularly for Davis stations - and the included utility in this distribution for migrating to v4 is known to contain errors affecting conversion of dayfile.txt)

Latest Cumulus MX V3 release 3.28.6 (build 3283) - 21 March 2024

Legacy Cumulus 1 release 1.9.4 (build 1099) - 28 November 2014
(a patch is available for 1.9.4 build 1099 that extends the date range of drop-down menus to 2030)

Realtime Guages 1.0.0.5 Install issues

Post by codemonkey »

Hi Steve, I am trying to figure out why my realtime page wont get past the "Loading Data" dialog.
I can access all the files and I edited my XML file.

Please have a look at my site if you get a moment.

Link to realtime is: http://tonys-house.com/weather/realtime.htm

It's working fine from here. Did you work out what you needed to do to fix it?

Hmm ........ seems OK now

However: this is one of two sites I've seen today where the 'ordinary' guages don't 'fill' unless IE8 is in compatibility mode ?

But they are both sites where they have enforced their own css on the divs which are drawn by wz-graphics - coincidence ?

It's the old version of wz_graphics that doesn't work properly with IE8:

wz_jsgraphics.js v. 2.33

Tony needs to upgrade to version 3.05, as per my announcement here: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=863

hmm, that is weird, it didnt work at all last night. In any browser. It would just sit at loading data. But now it is working fine.
I will upgrade those files.

Is there some possibility that the latest version of Cumulus is posting info in the realtime.txt in the later PM hours that the realtime guages cant read?

It was about this time last night when it wouldnt work before which is why I started this thread. Then this morning it was fine.
Now it doesnt work again.

The time now is: 9:57pm
My current realtime.txt data is this:
06/12/09 21:57:25 45.7 83 40.8 0.2 0.7 315 0.12 0.01 29.53 NW 0 mph F in in 54.2 -0.01 0.01 16.35 0.00 72.1 44 45.7 +0.1 55.6 14:39 34.3 01:53 7.9 14:26 11.4 14:21 29.67 09:37 29.53 21:53 1.8.8 881 0.7 45.7 44.3 0 0 0 289 0.01 4 0

I've just tried the realtime.txt file that you quoted, and it works OK.

When you experience the problem again, turn on the error console in your browser and see if it says anything.

I'm afraid I have no idea what any of those mean. The bottom two look like errors in Firefox itself, and as for the top one? None of those are errors generated by the Silverlight application. Those three errors all appeared in the console just after you tried to load the realtime.htm page?

Hold on, I know what the problem is, it's nothing to do with those errors, whatever they are. I just spotted the 'www' in the URL in your screenshot. I've been using the URL without the 'www', it makes a difference. Silverlight doesn't allow cross-domain access unless you allow it, and as far as it's concerned tonys-house.com and www.tonys-house.com are different domains. In your xml file you've used:

<realtimeURL>http://tonys-house.com/weather/realtime ... ealtimeURL>

so access is only permitted from the URL without the www. I was sure I'd mentioned this in the readme, but it seems not.

See this thread for what you need to do: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1495

Hi I noticed that CumulusRealtime.xml does not like characters like Æ Ø Å or for that sake the UTF8 version like

Code: Select all

æ or &oslash, or å
This causes the "Loading data" to just hang there...
I noticed this at line 4 where you set the sitename.

I fixed this issue by converting/changed the encoding of the CumulusRealtime.xml from ANSI to UTF-8 with Notepad2 (you can probably do this in other text editors as well).

This used to work for me in the previous version...
And a little heads up Steve, the 1.0.0.5 version still reports 1.0.0.3 at the bottom of the page.

steve wrote:The xml file in 1.0.0.5 uses utf-8 encoding (unless I have somehow accidentally changed it back again!)
It looks like I created the utf-8 version (see the posts at the bottom of this page - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 7&start=30) but may have forgotten to include it in 1.0.0.5 release.

Your site has 1.0.0.5 installed and identifies itself as such, so if you're seeing 1.0.0.3 then you probably have that version cached in your browser.

Yes you are right about the cache. Cleared Firefox cache and refreshed - Shows 1.0.0.5 now...
I just tried "Shift"+Refresh, but that did not do it, so I had to do it the hard way :D

That also gave me the new realtime graph... I did not know that this was changed :)
