MySQL Access - 1and1 Shared Hosting

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

MySQL Access - 1and1 Shared Hosting

Post by stevendt »

Is anyone uploading to a MySQL database on a 1and1 hosted server from Cumulus?

My package includes MySQL databases and I am trying to get CumulusMX to upload to a new database. However, when it tries to create the tables (dbname, host, username, password and port are all correct), I get a 10061 error in the Cumulus log ("The requested name is valid but no data of the requested type was found")

I guess this is some sort of access problem (?).

I have found the following on the Ionos site . . .
"To protect your data from unauthorised access, our MySQL servers are only accessible through actions performed in your account and not through ODBC or something similar.
Accordingly, external access from a local computer, such as yours at home, is not possible.
Please understand that this setting cannot be changed for customers using the same MySQL server."

I'm not sure whether that precludes any external access to the database (it would be pretty much useless then would it not?), or whether it is just database administration that is limited. It may be possible to manually create the tables, then have Cumulus upload data, rather than modify the structure?

It would be helpful to know whether anyone else had this working, or does the 1and1 statement basically say this is a non-starter?

regards
Dave

I have the same with my web-host.

The solution is to run the ImportCumulusFile https://cumuluswiki.org/a/ImportCumulus ... the_script
each night after the Dayfile.txt has been uploaded to the server.

If your hosting service provides a Cpanel you may find in the database area "Remote MySQL". This allows you to specify a given IP address from which you will access your MySQL database. It is imperative that you have a fixed IP address to do this as keeping track of dynamic IP addresses that some ISPs allocate is near enough impossible.

If you do not have that it looks like your hosting service does not allow remote access to a MySQL server.

Sutne, thanks for the info, I will investigate that option

David, I’m not sure that you actually read my message? What you suggest conflicts with the info that Ionos gives

I did read your post, I just thought you might have the option as it is my experience that most of the tech support people who work for hosting companies work from a tech support by numbers sheet and do not always no what they support and what they don't, hence why I suggested checking out their CPanel if they have one.
