Can't Download new data from Easy Weather

Suddenly I can't download data from Easy Weather into Cumulus. The small "Downloading" window appears, then nothing happens. After 5 mins I have to use Cntrl-Alt-Del to shut the prog down. I've taken a debug file, but can't see where to attach it here! Any bright ideas? Greetings from sunny Spain. Steve.

It's not clear what you're trying to do. Cumulus can't 'download' data from Easyweather. There is a deprecated method using Cumulus with a Fine Offset station where it continuously reads the last line of the easyweather.dat file, but this gives very poor results. The fact that you get the 'downloading' window suggests that you haven't actually chosen this method but are driving the station directly. If you have easyweather running at the same time, this will not work.

You attach files to forum posts by using the 'upload attachment' section just below where you type the message in. It's normally best to zip the files to be sure the forum will accept them.

If you haven't got easyweather running at the same time as Cumulus, and you do have the 'Fine Offset' method selected, and it still doesn't work, then zip up the Cumulus diags folder and attach it here and I'll have a look.

Watcha Steve! No, of course I don't mean "download from Easy Weather" I meant "Download from MyDel Weather Station"! I never have Easy Weather and Cumulus running at the same time. I discovered long ago that didn't work. I'm still stymied. Bug report attached. Greetings from sunny Spain. Steve.

The USB component is falling over trying to read the station details from Windows. More than that I can't say, I'm afraid, this is all at a lower level than Cumulus and happens before Cumulus gets to do anything with the station. Basically the USB component can't talk to the station. A few things to try are unplug/replug the station, reset the station, that sort of thing.

You could zip up the diags folder and attach it, but I doubt they would show me anything that would help.

Hmmm. OK. Well, EasyWeather is still downloading the info from the station, which might suggest the USB connection is still working OK. And I can't reset anything in Cumulus, as, as soon as I try to run it, I get the "Downloading Data - Please Wait" window and then nothing happens.
Is Cululus 2 fully working yet, Steve? Maybe I could move to that?. OR....could I rename the Cumulus Directory, download a new copy of Cumulus 1.8, then copy the data directory from the old file to the new file?

I suggested that you reset the station, did you try that?. Searching the forum for someone else with the same problem suggests that a reset of the station fixed it for them.

You could try, but I doubt that anything you do to Cumulus is going to fix this. Something has happened to your USB connection or station which is upsetting the USB driver which Cumulus uses. Try a different USB port?

Interesting ideas, and definitely worth trying. It could well be some sort of permissions problem.

Assuming you're running Windows Vista, try this:

Right click on the Cumulus icon (presumeably on your desktop)...click on "Run as Administrator" and that may very well solve your problem. In fact I'm quite sure this is your problem.

As a second idea, you can run the program under, say, Windows XP. To change compatibility, right click on the Cumulus icon, click on "Properties", click on "Compatibility" tab and tick the box that says something like "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and try Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

Let us know if either of these suggestions work, ok?

Yes, I can see that, you've already uploaded the bug report file.

If not, I can send the zipped data files.

You could zip up the diags folder that I keep asking for, and attach that. It's in the folder where you installed Cumulus.

You're using a fairly old beta version of Cumulus, it's probably worth getting the 1.8.8. release version before trying anything else.

He's running XP SP2. I can't remember enough about XP to know how that would affect your suggestions?

Ugh. Right-o. Well...that would negate my "Run as Administrator" suggestion. There is a compatibility tab under properties for XP but he'd have to try it in Windows 98 or something which wouldn't help any. I know if a Vista is used, the "Run as Administrator" is almost a necessity.

If Easy Weather won't download, as mentioned, it sounds like a communication problem between the weather station console and the PC. Resetting console by removing batteries is an idea, as mentioned, thats worth trying. If Easy Weather can't communicate, its a cinch Cumulus won't either.

Otherwise I surrender.

Thanks for suggestion. OK - so I right click the icon, and under properties, Compatibility...ooops. No Windows XP shown! Only 95, 98, 2000 etc.
Is everyone who uses Cumulus called Steve?

OK guys. You've really tried hard, and I'm very appreciative. I'm going to download v 1.8.8 or even 1.8.9 and see how we go from there.
Steve no. 1 suggested I zipped one of the files in the Data directory. I'll do that if I still have problems.
Easy Weather is still running well - downloads it's files each time I run Easy Weather. Only Cumulus freezes.
