Updating Cumulus MX v3.0 Build 3043

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Updating Cumulus MX v3.0 Build 3043

Post by geoffw »

Hi Folks,

I've been away from the Forum for a while, but my weather station has been chugging along using one of he earlier versions of CumulusMX V3.0 Build 3043.

I now want to update to latest version.

My questions are:

1: Can I jump straight from V3.0 build 3043 to V3.5+?
2: I can't find a strings.ini file in my current CumulusMS folder - Should I have one?

My answers are:

1: Yes, subject to the proviso I will mention below. I often miss in between versions, since releases have been coming pretty often since March!

2. strings.ini is optional. If you don't have one standard phases are used, if you do have one, MX has to look up each phrase it wants to use to see if it needs to translate it to something defined in strings.ini. (Look that file up on Wiki if you want to learn more).

The proviso:
You are always advised to read every release notice for all versions in-between, but my skilled eyes can do that quickly.
I forget which MX functionality you are using, Geoff:

3044: No changes require action from you
3045: The updates should not require action from you
3046: Much new functionality. You may find new files created when you use this new functionality (e.g. weather diary)
3047 to 3052: No actions
3053 to 3067: Loads new functionality, but no actions needed
3068 to 3070: No action
3071: Please read the announcement viewtopic.php?p=140248#p140248, there are new settings that need to be set correctly.
3072 to 3075: No action for new functionality
3076: If you use the MX functionality to update database tables, you need to run a routine available at viewtopic.php?p=142085#p142085

I would stop at that version (3.6.0) and ensure it works correctly, before you attempt to upgrade any further.

3077 to 3083 are all minor updates, and you can skip these when you do the next upgrade when build 3084 is ready for release, I am still working on one part of what I hope will be in that.
