Errors after install Cumulus on new computer

Post by PaulMy »

I have installed Cumulus 1.8.8 on new computer to be my dedicated weather computer and copied all files from previous computer. I am not very good with the technical issues, even the quite simple ones to most of you but have read the FAQ. Changed the com port error in Cumulus.ini and that fixed the first startup problem. Started Cumulus again and it seemed to download from the data logger but finished very quickly and no previous days date is shown. When "View" Cumulus gives an error message "Date format error - has your system date format changed? See the FAX". In the FAX it mentions to check the date format .ini and this shows StartDate= 25/07/2008. The last date for Cumulus data on the former computer was November 30 - the Nov09log data file has the last entry 30/11/09,12:30 etc. and today after new install and data logger download the next and only entry in Dec09log is 04/12/09,19:30 etc. which is now so there is no other data downloaded after November 30 . The .ini file also shows LastLoggerDownload= 12/4/2008 7:02:30 PM which is the wrong year. The date format for my old computer and the new computer seem the same to me when I go in the clock/time option as December-04-09. I changed the .ini for the LastLoggerDownload =30/11/2009 12:00 AM but this did not fix the problem. Any suggestions on the correct way to set the date(s) and where?

Hi Paul

the LastLoggerDownload in the cumulus.ini is no longer used so is irrelevant

I assume when you changed the StartDate you had closed Cumulus down first?

You need to go into the Windows control panel and check that your 'short date format' matches the format of your Startdate=25/07/2008.

However, this shouldn't affect downloading data from the logger. Best thing is to correct that data issue (either change your system format or edit cumulus.ini) then restart Cumulus from the point where you you first tried to run it on the new computer, by first copying the data from the backup folder for that time before starting Cumulus. If it still doesn't download the logger data, zip up the diags folder and attach it.

The computer short date format is dd/MM/yyyy results in 05/12/2009
The StartDate=25/07/2008
The 'today" date is 12/5/2009
The "yesterday" date is 12/5/2009
The "dayfile" date is dd/mm/yy and it has nothing between November 30 and Dec 4
The date in the monthly data files is dd/mm/yy

I removed the Dec09log file and restrated Cumulus and all data from Dec 4, 20:30 dowloaded (this is the time I installed new Cumulus version) until now current, except it missed the 10:30 from the data logger likely as I was in the midst of removing the old Dec09log file and downloading, but downloaded the 11:00 okay.

Once Cumulus is running most items in "View" seems to be okay (probably without the data between Nov 30 and Dec 4) except for "This month" and "This period" and the "All time records" which still gives the "Date format error..". Once this error is corected |I can likely edit the all time information.

Due to all the Cumulus restarts the backup in the new Computer is now all dated December but I have the November backups still in the old computer so can use that to restore if necessary as well as all the setup and data to Nov 30 which is the last day I downloaded in Cumulus until installing on the new Computer on Dec 4.

Looks like you still have a date format problem there, your today date is mm/dd/yyyy and Cumulus is trying to use that date when downloading from the logger, so there's a confusion between 5th Dec and 12th May.

Steve,
Thanks for your responses, any suggestion how or which date to change? If I can change the computer date to mm/d/yyyy will that affect any other part of Cumulus such as the dayfile or data that is now in dd/mm/yy or the data logger download for WeatherLink? I am arranging to get VirtualVP and then plan for a website if I can get to understand the technical reqirements.

I guess you must have run Cumulus while your date format was set at mm/dd/yyyy, and that's why Cumulus wrote the dates in today.ini (and yesterday.ini?) in those formats (it just uses the system date format in those files). So, assuming you want to keep your system date format at dd/mm/yyyy (I think that's the way round you have it normally in Canada?) then the best thing is to edit today.ini and yesterday.ini to bring the dates in there into line.

Cumulus always logs the actual data in the log files using dd/mm/yy (although the separators might be different eg dd-mm-yy, but that doesn't matter) so that's not an issue.

I'd always assumed that people would have exactly the same regional settings on all of their computers, so this sort of thing would never be a problem and data could easily be copied from one machine to another; I do it myself all the time for testing purposes and never have a problem as I always have exactly the same settings on all computers.

I think I got it sorted out. Had to change the computer date format to M/dd/yy as cumulus.ini was otherwise defaulting back at shut off to this format rather than the computer's dd/mm/yyyy. Cleaned up the monthly and dayfile files' data duplications caused from the download from the data logger going back to October 13, and did all the edits in dayfile, yesterday and today to get everything looking fine. Updated All time highs/lows. Unless something else creeps up I should be fine to move forward to also run Cumulus continuously along with Weatherlink (have to wait for new version of VirtualVP to run on Windows 7 64-bit), and then investigation what I need to do and get for a Komoka weather website. Thanks for your help :D.

Running Cumulus and Weatherlink simultaneously? How do you do that? once one has use of the virtual serial port, the other cant access it for me, using XPPro SP3.

thanks, Gordon
