Local vs Remote Gauges - hover over action

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Local vs Remote Gauges - hover over action

Post by stevendt »

Hi,

the hover over action is different between the local and remote gauges. Locally, hovering over the gauge displays a current conditions text box. When the gauges are uploaded to my website, the current conditions text is there, but the popup also wants to display a server side graph.

I know that there is a (long) thread on server side graphs viewtopic.php?f=40&t=13189&sid=11b2e4ed ... &start=210 and I have been trying to get to grips with this topic. However, not being familiar with PHP, JavaScript, etc., etc., this is going to take me some time to work out. (The thread dates back quite a while, from when the gauge scripts were written, through various versions of PHP and discusses implementation on Linux and windows servers. For the novice, it's not easy to see how to implement the remote scripts, it might be an idea to have them off by default, rather than on, so that they can be implemented as required.)

In the meantime, is there an easy way to turn off the server generated graphs and have the hover action just display the text info like the gauge does locally?

regards
Dave

Hi Dave, there are no server-side graphs in CumulusMX - it is all done client-side (in the browser) now. I don't know enough about the hover over graphs to offer any help, unfortunately. I'm sure somebody else will chip in :)

Edit gauges.js, line 51 (and 52)...

Code: Select all

showPopupGraphs : true, // If pop-up data is displayed, show the graphs?
mobileShowGraphs : false, // If false, on a mobile/narrow display, always disable the graphs

Ah, OK - thanks.

Does that mean that I have missed something out when doing the basic configuration & website upload then? - At the moment, my remote gauges display the current conditions text and a missing image icon in a popup that looks to be sized to display a (missing) trend?

No, as you now know Cumulus MX does not provide graph image files (Cumulus 1 did, and many of the other programs that use the SS gauges do as well), some other programs have to use a server side package like MX to generate them. The SS gauges are not designed to work solely with Cumulus.
