New Cumulus MX Installation - website initially good but not updating

I have installed CumulusMX (several times) on a 24/7 server I have running. (I host several websites from my server as well as having a remote host.)

My intention is for this new 'weather' website to be hosted on my remote host.

I have followed the MX installation instructions to the letter, and initially everything looks good and I can browse to the website OK.

The cumulusMX.exe is reporting "downloading archive data... and normal running" on my server and FTP is working fine uploading 'realtime.txt' at regular intervals.

BUT, this refreshed data is NOT refreshing on the actual webpage (apart from the initial load and the detail is correct... so I know the directory is correct.) So the weather and currect data is never changing on the webpage. I've proved it's not cache problem. *** It's just like the 'realtime.txt' file is not being read.***

Viewing the data in my browser at "127.0.0.0.1:8998" looks fine, but I do fail to understand exactly what the green (quickly going RED) refers to? Someone please tell me? - thanks!)

Please... what am I missing? I've tried several 'clean' MX instals to no avail. I connect to my WS3083 on COM1 and the realtime.txt updates confirm data receipt at the remote host.

Many thanks Chris

Which one is quickly going red, Data stopped or Sensor contact?

Is this the weather station https://www.aercusinstruments.com/aercu ... r-station/ ? If it is you shouldn't be using a Com port but using the setting in Station Settings "Fine Offset with Solar Sensors" and connected through a USB port.

Thank you so very much for replying. Yes, it IS the Aercus WS3083 as you have asked.

I am indeed using "Fine Offset with Solar Sensors" and connected through a USB port. Sorry, I misled you... The TCP/IP and serial connections are 'grey'd-out'. So yes through one of my USB ports, NOT Com1 (again sorry... a senior moment)

As I said in my request for help, I know up to date data is being received and FTP'd OK up to my host space... (I can prove that using Filezilla), and the initial weather display is correct in every way. It's just that as the day and hours move on, the template display remains static, with no updates, even though the 'realtime.txt' file changes as it is updated.

On the face of it, it's just like a 'cache' problem... where the browser doesn't feel the need to update. Except it's not!

I have tried both the Weather34 template and the pwsWD template, but both behave the same.

The RED down arrow I am referring to, is the dashboard, when I'm viewing 127.0.0.1:8998 at my end. It's the "last station update" down arrow that initially, very briefly is GREEN, but then quickly turns RED and stays RED. This "last station update" time remains at 15:43 (yesterday). In the "LOCAL TIME" box, the "Last Cumulus update" UP arrow is GREEN and closely follows the actual "local-time" above. What does RED mean please?

Thank you again.

Ok in Internet Settings / Wwb/ftp Settings have you got ticks in

Auto Update
Include Standard Files
Include Graph Data Files
Include Moon Image
Enable Realtime FTP
Reatime.txt FTP
Realtimegauges.txt

AND you have set a upload interval in seconds and a realtime interval in minutes?

You say the " template display remains static" do you mean you see no changes in the data on your website because this will only happen if you refresh the webpage, or are you talking about the CumulusMX Admin interface and the Dashboard page (http://localhost:8998 or http://your IP:8998) as this will refresh on the upload interval?

Thank you again.

Auto Update yes
Include Standard Files yes
Include Graph Data Files yes
Include Moon Image no (but just ticked)
Enable Realtime FTP yes
Reatime.txt FTP yes
Realtimegauges.txt yes

Upload set for 10 (tried several)
Realtime set for 10 (tried several)

Fully understand what you say about the need to reload (refresh) the webpage to see changes... no, it's not that. Refreshing the page, clearing cache and trying various devices to view the page... no changes.

BUT... I also see NO changes at the dashboard page (apart from advancing clock time) ... even though I DO see updated FTP data "realtime.txt" files in the correct host directory.
AH... I've just noticed the "realtime.txt" file which DOES keep uploading ok... has the date and time of the upload, but it's THAT which is remaining static. I've only been looking at the FILE date/time... not its actual content. In other words, it's only FTP'ing the static data seen at the dashboard. Am I right?
So... I'm guessing you have just identified the problem? I do believe we're getting closer :)

Please run Cumulus with the -debug command line parameter and post the log file after it has been running for a while.

Thank you Mark and David for your suggestions.

BUT, I've woken this morning to find that all appears to be working!!!

The only thing that I had changed was ticking the "load moon image" which previously had not been selected. Surely it couldn't have just been that?!

The "last station update" on the localhost dashboard is now GREEN and is regularly updating. Well... that is so refreshing... in both senses of the word.

So, thank you both, so far. I shall let it run for several hours, set debug, then perhaps shutdown, reboot etc to see if it recovers and runs ok each time.i feel I have to know the reason having spent so many hours. 😀😀😀
Many, many thanks. Your help truly appreciated. I'll will update you both later.
Chris.

Update...

Everything DID continue to work as expected until I rebooted my server.

BUT, I can now make it work and NOT work to order!

If I go into my server localhost cumulusMX directory and run "CumulusMX.exe", everything starts ok and I get the "normal running" process. I then go into my server localhost and browse 127.0.0.1:8998 dashboard and as before the "Last station update" arrow initially goes 'up' GREEN (all data readings good), but then a few seconds later goes 'down' arrow RED. Then I am back to the problem I had.

BUT, what I have discovered is... if I then go back to the "CumulusMX.exe" file listed in my local host CumulusMX directory... NOT DOUBLE-CLICK ON IT, (or run it again)... but simply RIGHT-CLICK on the file name and select 'properties'... the dashboard "Last staion update" arrow IMMEDIATELY goes 'up' and GREEN !!! If I then close that 'properties' window, that infamous arrow goes 'down' and RED ! That happens to order, every time.

The "properties" windows when all good, GREEN and running 100% shows

How weird is that!

Silly question but you are you starting CumulusMX.exe with Administration rights?

You shouldn't really be starting Cumulus by double clicking it from Explorer. You should create a administrative command session, change the path to the Cumulus location, then run it by typing in "CumulusMX.exe"

You can start it using a shortcut as well, so long as you run as administrator (unless you have done the netsh stuff), and set the executable location in the shortcut.

Thank you David and Mark.

David, Yes I am starting CumulusMX.exe with Administration rights.

Mark, I don't understand quite why running it with 'Admin rights' from within the Directory structure would be different to what you suggest, but of course I bow to your knowledge.

I shall try as you suggest Mark.

I sincerely thank you both for your help and suggestions. I can at least now run the software and produce good results, albeit in perhaps an odd way! :)

(I'm beginning to wonder if my server is causing some kind of conflict, as I am running several applications including webhosting for local church and charity, a well as a recorded auto-streaming internet radio station. I'm ex IBM, run two HP servers, so have do something interesting in my retirement. Struggle to pay the electricity bill though!)

Really excellent software and I love your dedication and desire to share your interest with others. Thank you both... and for your patience.

Chris
