Did you know that...

NOTE: It may be useful to subscribe to this topic in addition to the release topic

In the context of graphing, I would like to mention the UseNormalRainReference (and it's temperature equivalent UseNormalTempReference) inifile parameter. Few use it but it triggers interesting graph for the monthly Rain and Temprature graphs[1].

The values can be:
  • Normal
  • StationAverage
  • Both
  • None
And as a result it shows the standard deviation (with Station Average) and it shows you how your station deviates from the official 'Normal'.
In addition, if, for the raingraph, these values are set, one or two reference lines in the Daily Rain graph are plotted.

[1] : This requires the Normal values for your station to be filled in in CMX (NOAA Reports Settings=>Normal Mean Temperatures and =>Normal Precipitation

If you are on the UserMap of CumulusUtils, either when using modules or the full website, it is more than useful to enter your URL in the Website parameter (section Maps) to the pwsFWI page (for modules preferred) or to your CUtils website. It makes the map more useable, support easier and you may regard it as a payback for the use of CumulusUtils.

Note that any modification may take up to 24 hrs to propagate into the system.

For CUtils to work properly you MUST enable realtime.txt and realtimegauges.txt in CMX.
  1. In the menu: Internet Settings=>Interval Configuration=>Real time Interval Settings;
  2. Then tick Enable Realtime and Enable Realtime Uploads and tick Upload (or copy) for realtime.txt and realtimegauges.txt
Depending on your configuration with - possibly - multiple sites you may have to configure CumulusRealTimeLocation.

Most of us started our weather station somewhere on a random date in the year or have been experimenting with settings in CMX for some time before stabilising. One of the consequences is that the averages and records are - or may be - incorrect and biased towards that data shortage of the starting period.

Because of the above, it is best to set the startdate of data at the beginning of a year from where you have stable data gathering.

To do so set: RecordsBeganDate=01/01/20 (date is an example 8-) )
This setting is independent of the similar CMX setting and only defines the start of data for CUtils.

Be aware the some adblockers / malware scanners block the fetching of highcharts js libraries.
You will need to instruct that type of software to allow fetching software from highcharts.com otherwise the charts will not display.

And that is a serious problem of highcharts because a random user may not be able to see charts and does not understand so simply leaves your CUtils site (or any other CumulusMX site for that matter). This leaves highcharts pretty useless for a public website!

[EDIT]: it seems to be the region1.google-analytics.com cookie which causes the block. I reported a false positive (which likely will not be accepted) but if google analytics will be the cause of a site being blocked than a lot of sites will render useless. I am not sure if this is a Malwarebytes issue or a highcharts or a google analytics issue...

[EDIT 3/9/2024]: The false positive has been accepted by Malwarebytes so that that protection tool does no longer block Highcharts libraries (confirmed),
