WH-1090 and strange USB behaviour

I've posted on this subject before, but have been carrying out a couple of weeks experimentation and have now reached a dead end. I've got a WH-1090 unit and after repositioning transmitter, receiver etc have resulted in a setup whereby the unit will operate fine UNLESS I leave the USB connection permanently on the computer. If the USB is plugged in to the computer for any length of time the receiver will display -- for all remote readings and the only way to recover from this situation (that I have found) is to remove receiver power and then reset the clock, date and relative pressure. The unit appears to clear the internal memory at this reset (and I am sure it shouldn't). So - does anyone have any ideas?? It's sending me crazy - the only way I can keep it al working is to plug the USB in to the computer, transfer data to the PC and the3n unplug again. So I can't keep a website being updated as sooner or later the remote readings will be lost. Has anyone had a similar problem?? Has anyone had their unit clear the memory when changing batteries?? Do I just have a faulty unit?? I've tried having the PC powered up all the time, and I've tried powering off when not needing it. Whichever way I do it the common factor seems to be the PC is plugged in. I've tried different ports, and I've tried (not for a long time though) a different PC.

Andrew; as far as I know the data is written to a E2prom and it should not loose this data when it's switched off, batteries changed or for any other reason. When the data fills the space on the E2prom it will loose the first data recorded and add the last data received. The only way it should loose all data is if you select that option and 'Clear' all memory from the console or software.

I rather think you have a faulty unit; perhaps the e2prom is faulty or the chip that writes to and reads from it.
Nothing you can really do yourself.

I wonder if the unit is under warranty? If so I would return it with a detailed description of the fault.
My console unit failed after one day's use so I know they can go wrong (a quick replacement was received which works fine).

If it's not under warranty someone mentioned that the WH1080 (mine) could be obtained from one of the Amateur Radio dealers, Waters and Stanton I believe for around £30; but not sure if they do yours.

Andrew; an update.

I've just looked at the spec of the 1090 and it appears to use the same sensor cluster as the 1080, just a different receiver console, so if you can't get a replacement I think a 1080 console would work just the same, providing it was on the same frequency.
The ones being supplied at present are on 868MHz, but earlier ones I believe were on the older frequency for these remote units, namely 433MHz. It should be labelled on your box or the back of the transmitter unit or receiver console.

Just to confirm Steve's post
The 1080 and 1090 do indeed use the same sensors and transmitter and the consoles are interchangeable (subject to the 2 different frequency bands).
I currently have both a 1080 and 1090 console working simultaneously, from 1 set of sensors/transmitter
