Cumulus Support

Hi all

I'm running CumulusMX on Linux using mono and it works fine.
Unfortunately, when I have to restart Cumulus, sometimes it messes up all my ini files (max wind gust 387 m/s, min temperature -250° etc. etc).
Copy old data files from backup directory doesn't help.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you stop by pressing Ctrl+C in the MS-DOS window that belongs to the MX server and start it by right clicking and selecting Run as Admin.

Failure to do either of these can cause problems.

He's on Linux, David. So right-clicking and selecting run as admin doesn't apply. But using ctrl-c certainly does.

Whoops Didn't spot that so is he using the sudo command to start it?

I start CumulusMX as root using the command mono CumulusMX.exe.
To stop it, I use Ctrl-C from the same shell I started it.
Do you know there is something better I can do to stop the program?

I'm a bit puzzled by "Copy old data files from backup directory doesn't help" - are you saying all your backup files are corrupted too? Does that apply to the rollover backups as well as the startup backups?

If everything is getting corrupted I think it possibly points to some issue on your computer, or something on there like Anti-Virus software?

Can you post an example of a set of corrupted files?

This is the Wind section of month.ini (*.ini(s) report the same info)

Of course 230.4 m/s is wrong.
I stop CumulsMX, copy a "correct" set of data from my backup and finaly restart cumulus.
I checked the ini files and they are still correct, but, after a few seconds, strange values appeared everywhere in every section and in every file (temperature, wind, rain etc, etc). The month.ini file, for example reports back the same values for the wind section. It seems there is a cache somewhere or, maybe, cumulus is still active.

I read somewhere that some people stop cumulus with kill -5 <cumulus_pid>.
Do you know why?

Very strange - do you have the option "Stop second instance" enabled in your station settings?

Does a "ps aux" show another copy running?

Please run MX with the -debug switch and then zip up your MXdiags folder and attach it please

No, it wasn't.
So I stopped MX, checked if ps showed something strange (no other copies running), enabled "Stop second instance" and restarted MX with -debug option.
We'll see what will happen in the next days.

Unfortunately it happened again.
Suddenly, Cumulus din't update the template any more and I had to restart it.

You see that, at 2020-04-17 14:44:31.160, it assumed "rain counter = 1307,7" that is wrong.
Previously it ignored some "bad data".

Of course I had to restart CumunulsMX again with a clean data directory.

To me it looks as if the bad data values are coming from your station logger. You can see the station logger entries being read: Then looking further down the output, you can see the data entries created from the otuput from the station logger: This is where the "rain counter = 1307,7" is coming from. Cumulus is assuming nothing - this is data read from your station's logger.

It looks to me as if you need to reset your station logger. Or perhaps it is malfunctioning?

It can be a malfunction, why not?
Anyway I don't understand why this happens just when Cumulus restarts.

Hi all

Just to be sure there aren't misunderstandings.
This is a log file (meteo.log) created by my own script that "... runs at each web update interval", as explained below the text box "Program" in "External programs" section under "Internet settings" menu. This script simply copy the contents of realtime.txt to meteo.log.

For a reason I don't know, CumulusMX stopped to update realtime.txt at 10:19:17.
At 14:44:46 I restarted CumulusMX without cleaning data directory. What I got is a completely messed up data.
At 15:14:47 I restarted CumulsMX again but this time I cleaned data directory before. As you can see now data are correct.

The relative CumulusMX log file is the one I posted yesterday

The CulumusMX log file you posted yesterday covers the period after your first restart. It might be a good idea to post the previous log file (as an attachment) so we can see why CumulusMX stopped updating realtime.txt. I think this may give more clues.
