Looking at your comparison data, I would say that your changes have been well worthwhile. The maxima are reduced. I think the 20th and 21st were sunny days, so looking at the delta between the comparisons - and the fact that the "late" maxima don't appear to be happening now - then the sensor is far enough away from the wall and is shielded from direct solar radiation. A sunny day without any wind is what you need now just to double-check any heat coming from nearby structures.

The difference in height will definitely make a difference with minimum temperatures - especially on clear and still nights, as marked temperature lapse rates occur on nights like these. I would anticipate very little difference in maximum temperatures due to the height difference.

The geography of the two locations will make an impact on your comparison, as valley bottom sites tend to have a higher range of temperatures - higher max and lower min - than at a hillier location.
