Pink Moon

The current full moon , called a pink moon by some, has another consequence here in Burnham-on-Sea, we have just had our highest tide of the year at 12.1m, which considering it started at -0.9 is a 13m tide or 42ft 8in in old currency!!

That's an impressive tidal range! I'm used to it topping out at around 7m in my haunts.

Good old Bristol Channel tides. I used to live near Taunton in my teens, and would quite often cycle over the Quantocks to watch the tide come in (amongst other things!) at Combwich, on the other side of the Parrett. Happy days

Used to help a very nice guy called Garth Crocker set up his weather station and web site who lived in Combwich. We did a joint presentation on the weather to his local community meeting. Unfortunately he got seriously ill and had to give up.

It's a good thing that air pressure is high at the moment and there are no strong westerlies to drive a surge up the Bristol Channel, otherwise you could've had some overtopping looking at your photos. I expect the actual measured tide was a bit less than predicted owing to the higher than average air pressure.

The environment agency were camped out at the tidal gates until high tide at 08.38am but thanks to no wind etc. it was well short of breaching the sea wall.



I am standing in the gap where the gates close!! It is at least 2-3ft in height short of breaching it.



I must admit it is an impressive sea wall they built after the floods of 1981!! But as you say with no wind or tidal surge it only made the top step.
