Re: erratic wind values
Well, yes, I've been pondering this, and it really depends on what form the option takes. The easiest way to do it (within the bounds of the rest of Cumulus) would just be set all of the wind values to the one consistent 'weatherlink' average value. That way the graph takes care of itself as the the two lines would coincide. Another, slightly friendlier option would be to leave the gust stuff as it is, store the 'weatherlink' average only where the 10-minute average currently goes, and remove the gust line from the graph.opticsman0127 wrote:If you did implement the option of the 'weatherlink' format, would Cumulus still record numerically data as it does now or, would it combine gust and speed into one set of figures? Whatever the answer, i think it would be interesting to have that option.
I'm not even sure I can easily reproduce the weatherlink behaviour exactly, given the way weatherlink works (always using logger data)...

Re: erratic wind values
It's the difference between the two graphs I uploaded earlier. When it's ticked, it plots the current ('latest' on the Cumulus main screen) wind reading from the station. When it's not ticked, it plots the peak value from the last few minutes (10 minutes when live, or whatever the VP2 logger interval is when using logger data). It's the value in the 'gust' box on the Cumulus main screen.opticsman0127 wrote:What significance and effect does having the 'Plot latest Gust' box ticked on Display Settings or, not having it ticked

Re: erratic wind values
Just one point of consideration, if my memory serves me right, Weather Display has exactly the same display anomaly but to get them to consider any software modification and/or implementation is unbelievably difficult. I know Cumulus has to cater for several weather stations and, to some extent, compromises have to be made. With Cumulus, there is someone in the 'hot seat' who is open to constructive suggestions and implementations. It may be that Cumulus won't do everything I had hoped for but, it certainly shines out amongst all the other offerings I have come across.
The main aspect of my job is designing telescopes and, I welcome input from customers and prospective customers. Some requests for features are just crazy, some so basic you wonder why you never thought it even useful. Most suggestions though are from well meaning, already users and, they just want that bit extra from their kit, if its possible. It also gives them a buzz if they see we have implemented one of their suggestions, albeit possibly a modified version of it.
Keep it up Steve and, I just hope, the suggestion you made enables me, and possibly others who might have noticed this display difficulty, to enjoy the software as much as it deserves.

Re: erratic wind values
<#wlatest> is the 'Latest' box on the Cumulus main window, this is the latest 3-second speed read from the VP2.
<#wgust> is the 'Gust' box on the Cumulus main window, this is the max value of the above over the last 10 minutes.
<#wspeed> is the 'Average' box on the Cumulus main window, this is the 10-minute average wind speed.
