Cumulus Support

I own tp1080wc weather station. and use cumulus software. I would like to know if there is any equpment to measure solar radiation, and put it together so I can calculate penman for ET.

Haven't heard the term penman for ET but Olejul and apenwith are working on a sunshine hours recorder and hope to have some production models ready for spring 2010 for some forum members to test. We're reporting progress on Homebuilt if you are interested.

Hi

ET = evapotranspiration - useful for judging plant growth and the need for irrigation - I think.
And the olejul apenwith recorder might be able to do that. Our trials are showing that we can judge the brightness of the sun and by comparing that to a standard radiation expected for a particular area at that brightness we MIGHT be able to give a good extimate of radiation.
We'll look into the possibility.

We are still at an early stage of the sunshine recorder - just about to build the first production prototype (our test device has proved very good) but IF we find a correlation between brightness and radiation we should be able to use the humidity/temperature and other data from the weather station and combine it with the sunshine data. My guess is that the result would be a close approximation - it dependa on the use of the ET data. In some cases (irrigation) it may not need to be precise, We would need to find out more information as to what is required by the end user.
This was not a use we had anticipated but if it can be done we can see the usefulness.
