Due to being a novice I had posted this in General forum earlier this evening but likely more appropriate here...
Cumulus seems to be working fine on my computer since installing in September, however there is nothing in the 'cumulus/data' folder and it says "folder is empty". Also, nothing in 'backup' folder. Is this normal, and how do I backup?

Re: Data and backup
I guess you're running Vista?
Cumulus is not a 'well-behaved' application. It does things which are now frowned upon, like storing its .ini file and user data in the Program Files folder. On XP you usually get away with this, but Vista puts a stop to it. When an application thinks it's writing to its Program Files directory, Vista 'virtualises' the writes and reads, and they're actually going to C:\Users\<your_account>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Cumulus\, which is where you will hopefully find your data.
I should fix this and make Cumulus well-behaved, but I decided to leave it until Cumulus 2 (my stalled prototype of which is well-behaved).
The backup folder is for an idea I had which hasn't come to anything yet, so should be empty anyway.
Edit: So, to back up on Vista, you should just need to copy the contents of that virtualised folder, as in theory that contains everything that Cumulus writes.

Re: Data and backup
Yes, running Vista. I notice another post suggesting that with Vista to not install Cumulus in Programs folder. Would a complete uninstall work and then reinstall latest version in new cumulus root folder?
I presume the past data would be lost, but not a serious concern at this time. Or perhaps I can find the existing data file and copy before removing and then adding to the new cumulus folder?

Re: Data and backup
Yes, a complete uninstall and reinstall into another folder should work (assuming you do not have data going back longer than whatever is kept in the memory in the device).

Re: Data and backup
I have reinstalled and yes, I have found data. However, with new version at start up I get a bug report, and by continuing all appears to be okay. I will see if it corrects in the next days.

Re: Data and backup
Paul, by 'new version', do you mean the 1.8.3 beta? Do you have any idea whether the bug report is a result of changing installation location, or changing to a new version? It's probably best if you send me the bug report (attach it here or email it), as I think it's unlikely to go away.

Re: Data and backup
Steve, yes, new version 1.8.3 beta. I'll attempt to attach bugreport file.
Didn't have any bug message today at any of several startups. However, with this new version I have found Cumulus to be very slow in startup and responding to any of the menu selections. Everything else on my computer responds fine. Thanks,

Re: Data and backup
I think I have fixed the sluggishness in the latest code, so I'll upload that shortly.
