wind reporting

Post by mikentl »

Hi Steve
Is it possible to alter the way cumulus reports the wind ie F2 light, moderate, breeze etc i have noticed that with a multiplier of 1.65 the wind speed is reported as 16 mph, where the wind heading is showing F2 light breeze. I have to have a substantial multiplier as I have various obstacles around the garden. At the moment its blowing like mad at 28mph but the display is reporting F5 Fresh Breeze. Does Cumulus take into account the multiplier when showing Beaufort reports.

I'm pretty sure it works correctly. When you say "28 mph" is showing as F5, that 28 is the average speed, yes?

Yes, it looks fine to me. Beaufort relates to average wind speed.

Thanks Steve,
I didn't realise that it was reporting the average, it looked a bit low seeing as the wind has been so strong most of the day

Your average does look quite low compared to your gusts. Is that a Cumulus 10-minute average, or supplied by the station? On the other hand, it's possible that the wind is very gusty where you are.

I have just ticked the 10 min average and it is now looking more in keeping with the current wind, average is now showing 30 mph
