No log data

Post by kayjay »

My wind speed is now perfect on my La Crosse Ws2350 - see earlier post. http://www.zen33683.zen.co.uk/weather/trends.htm

Since updating to the latest version and moving PC's I was also forced to connect via a USB>RS232 adaptor. It may be nothing to do with it but data stored in the Ws2350 when the PC is off is no longer collected when Cumulus starts - the dialogue box comes up but I don't see any data being transferred like I used to and there are gaps in the graphs for the period that the PC was off or Cumulus not running (check out last night). What could I have done wrong?

Thanks

You haven't accidentally unset 'use data logger' in the station settings? If not, zip up your diags folder and attach it and I'll have a look.

There seems to be a communication problem, presumably because of the USB adapter; it's failing to read the details it needs in order to process the logger data.

For example:

2009-11-16 15:11:40 : WS2300: failed to read history details

Then, the next run:

2009-11-17 07:05:48 : WS2300: Unable to read current rain total

Then:

2009-11-17 18:07:53 : WS2300: Unable to read current rain counter

In one of the runs (at 12:07), it did actually download 2 (!) entries from the logger.

Very strange - It can read the live data but not the logger data. What is the difference between the two? One would think that if one RS232 communication works then the other would also.

There's no difference, they're all just different areas of memory. It's probably occasionally failing to read the live data also, but in that case it just tries again at the next read interval.

After trying three different USB > RS232 adaptors I finally gave in and installed a 2 port serial card - works perfectly now.

Is there any way to change the rate at which the weather station logs the data when off-line? It only seem to log every hour or so and I would like to up it to every 10 mins

Thanks

Yes, but Cumulus can't do it. I think you'll have to use whatever software came with the station to do it.
